OP, I've been a couple times and there are two places that really stuck out to me.

One was the Tempting Tattie, they do baked potatoes with all kinds of main-course toppings. My tuna salad was phenomenal. Good for lunch, but beware: the servings are huge. If you get one, carry it down to the nearby park and people-watch. So fun.

For dinner, I vote The World's End tavern. There's a turkish place right around the corner that was fabulous too, but the tavern has the best fish and chips I've ever tasted. Perfect amount of salt, not too soggy but not too crispy, and actually flavorful. As far as English fare goes.
