I had this in a restaurant recently, cottage pie with a salad. Both of them were nice individually, but together? Bit weird.

>> No.6115960

I actually really like salad with pies (by which I mean cottage, shepherd's, fish, etc.) as well as lasagne. Mixing the filling up with the salad is a nice difference of texture.

That parsley is a bit funny looking, though.

The parsley is weird and the salad looks sloppy but that's about it.

This would be completely casual in a French or Belgian restaurant as far as I know. Salad as a side dish with any meat+carbs recipe seems ok to me.

Really? Salad and a traditional meat dish seem wrong to me.

It's flat leaf parsley.
Do you guys only get the frizzy stuff?

I don't really do steak, I find it boring. If I was to have it, though, I'd have it with potatoes, root vegetables, and garden peas.

I only meant that it's quite a large snip of the plant. Not only would I say it's an unusual amount, it's also an unusual amount of stem.

Where's the cheese on the top of the cottage pie?

Right, who the fuck puts a clump of uncircumcised shafts of parsley with the woody stalks on a dish?

Yes, you're supposed to sprinkle grated Cheddar on the top and grill it until golden.

What is the bunch of cilantro adding to the pie?

Decoration mainly.

decoration and the next to none existent flavour of parsely (cilantro).

Appeal of food begins with sight, this is also dependant on cultural differences though.

Generally speaking though green on a bland colour helps to lift the dish and make it look more appetising.

Anyone who puts an entire tree of parsley, flat or otherwise on as garnish needs to be shot.
Same with those giant trees of mint on dessert plates.
But I was raised to incorporate herbs into dishes, so I can't speak for everyone.

EX: Want mint in a desert? Make mint icecream. Actually fuck, a mohito icecream would be fantastic...the rum would probably keep it soft serve.

...Note to self: Make mohito icecream.

Did you know that talking to yourself (even within a post) is a sign of insanity?

Yeah, the first sign is talking to yourself, the second is answering back and the third is talking dirty to yourself while you masturbate.

...I do all three. I'm a man of passion.
