How can people actually like this shit?

Jim Beam is by far the most disgusting thing I've willingly put in my mouth. I can't believe I actually listened to you fags and went out to buy a bottle of this.

>muh aquired taste
>muh put a lil drop on your tongue first
>muh put a drop of water in the glass first
>muh serve it on the rocks
>muh trying incredibly hard to be masculine by forcing myself to drink this shit

Was it a ruse? Is this putrid garbage only recommended to trick people?

I'm sticking to Jagerbombs and never looking back.

Lol when you ask about drinking and "what's good", you have to make it clear what your intentions are and what kind of drinker you are....there are two types....type A. people who drink casually for amusement and to catch a little buz, and type B....people who drink to get drunk and don't care much about flavor.

Some people see alcohol as a drink in the culinary sense, others see it as a drug to use strictly for intoxication. Next time you ask for reccomendations make it clear that a pleasant taste is what you're going for.

It makes for a fairly tame sipping rye, but it makes a great old fashioned.

That said, I find myself buying Old Overholt over it almost every time.

My local liquor store has been selling the fifths of Bulleit rye for $20.99 for some time now. It just ain't selling.

To me, Rittenhouse was too sweet.

Back when it first came out, Willett Family Reserve rye was the best shit until you got to stuff like Col. E.H. Taylor and Whistle-Pig.

Used to be $39 and change after tax. Absolutely spicey, full bodied and had a great finish to it.

Went out of stock for like 6 months, then when it came back it as $60 before tax. Another liquor store was closing and had it for $36 after tax, so I bought another 3-4 bottles.

Col. E.H. Taylor is my absolute favor so far, but that's well into good single-malt scotch whisky price territory at something like $75 after tax. Worth every dollar though.

Angel's Envy is supposed to be good too, but haven't bothered trying it yet.

Don't want to spend >$70 on rye you might not like and want to be more adventurous than a bottle of Overholt? Knob Creek has a very nice rye at ~$35 for a fifth. It packs a wallop.

This.

I can usually only find the 80 proof handles, but it's still damn good for cheap whiskey.

My liquor store will only order me one at a time, and the closest store that has it is 30 minutes away. And they also have OGD 114, which for like $3 more, it's a substantially better bourbon.

This was my problem with it. Holy crap, it was sweeter than some bourbon. What exactly is the mashbill of Rittenhouse? It was so sweet, like an overly corny bourbon, I couldn't stand it.

I like single malts better for that reason alone, even when it is sweet it isn't super corny bourbon sweet. Of course I like bourbon too. No way I am paying good single malt prices for Rye just to try it. Maybe I will try Knob Creek.

Please do.

Old Overholt is sadly my staple rye. It is sweet, but predictably so. I'll 'splruge' on Bulleit every now and then, but Knob Creek is my true favorite mid-grade rye.

It's 50% ABV/100 Proof, so naturally it has a bit more concentration to the flavor.

As such, it makes a great sipping whiskey when you follow the "three fingers per two ice cubes" pour stratagem. Not the best rye by far, but it has a great character to it and definitely distinguishes itself from thir bourbon bottlings (even their 60%ABV/120 proof bourbon).

I started out on cigars and pipe tobacco, and still indulge frequently. Marlboro is my shit. Camel a shit.

The Webley revolver and .455 Webley existed in a time period when automatics were taking the the helm in terms of service pistols.

Nice assumptions there. Of course I new it was bottled in bond. It wasn't "too much alcohol burn" it was too sweet for me. It was fruity and spicy but mainly sweet. Even with water or ice it was too sweet. Alcohol burn isn't even a factor, I drink 40% to 50% alcohol beverages all the time. I just would like to share

>live with gf in a small 1 room apt
>her mom 'needs to crash on the couch sometimes'
>meaning she's lived here our entire lease
>she has done things like drink my beer and wine without asking
>even drank like 2-3L worth of vodka while we at school/work
>gf and I go get some whiskey and vodka for new years
>her mom was in the living room, saw we took it into our room
>she asks if she can have some
>we instantly deny her
>she throws a small bitch fit
>asks if we're going to do the dishes
>bitchplease.exe
>since she can't get mad at me she takes it out on gf
>gf sticks up for herself and still denies her

this grown ass late 40s aged woman (no job) who is leeching off us is brooding in the other room because we didn't want to share our alcohol with her.

I'm this close to calling the police and reporting her for trespassing, but the gf would hate me forever

Heh, first quarter of this thread are tryhards trying to sound like they know bourbon.

If you don't like Jim Beam, you don't like bourbon. Nope, I'm not claiming it's the best or exceptional in any way but this: it is what a bourbon is supposed to taste like. Better bourbons are just refinements on the various qualities of Jim.

Prefer other brands if you will, but know that if you can't stand Beam, you hate bourbon.

Foolish generalization, not all Irish whiskey is your standard Jameson or Bushmills. Tyrconnell single malt or Redbreast for example.

>> No.6102928

Next thing you'll do is post a 30 rack of Natty Ice and say "W-WHY DO PEOPLE LIKE THIS STUFF I-T'S AWFUL!!1!"

It's cheap as shit and gets you drunk, meaning college students will buy it

Or maybe you just can't handle liquor? Rub some more Vagisil on maybe that will help.

>It's cheap as shit

But it's not cheap as shit. A case of Natty I can understand--as you said, it's about as cheap as you can get for beer. But Jim Beam is far from the cheapest bourbon. If I wanted to buy a bottle of cheap booze to get smashed there are a zillion better choices. For example, in my area a liter of Jim Beam white label costs about $20. For about that same price I can get a handle (75% more) of mid-tier Vodka, and there are countless cheaper rums/whiskeys/vodkas/etc.

I'm not sure what you mean exactly. The guy I was replying to said it was cheap shit whose only purpose was to get hammered.

That's not even close to being true. There are plenty of much cheaper varieties of booze out there. MUCH cheaper. It's preposterous to claim that Jim Beam is a good choice if the metric is alcohol per $$$.

>>6102982
Agreed 100%

>> No.6103001

>>6102988
I'm actually the same guy lel, there was a slight miscommunication. I meant that Jim Beam is "cheap" in the sense that it's only $20 and it's also marketed towards college kids just like Natty Ice but want bourbon.

If you only want to get wasted vodka is probably the best choice. Taste doesn't vary too much over price and a handle of cheap vodka is about the best you'll get.

Technically cheap wine is the best price per alcohol but the taste and hangovers just aren't worth it. The high sugar content and shoddy fermentation process has bad results.

>>marketed towards college kids.

Interesting. I graduated a few years ago but I still have some friends in college. Jim Beam was/is just another well known "standard" brand. The stuff that was actually marketed to the college crowd is all the new flavored crap, like the "honey bourbon", fireball, etc.

>some girl asks me if I took her Fireball
>never would I ever etc etc
>I break into German for some reason
>she gets confused but her friend knows some
>I drunkenly flirt
>leave with an empty case of coke and an open beer for some reason
>stumble into a alumni party
>nope.jpg
>stumble all the way home and collapse on a couch
>wake up the next morning
>pick up the empty box to throw out

What's wrong with Jim Beam?

It's quite obviously entry-level, cheap whisky. As such it is still better and easier to consume than the more expensive Jack Daniels.

You can find whisky's that are even cheaper and of the same or slightly better quality, however. Many people have mentioned Old Grandad and I'm pretty partial to Old Crow myself.

I'll be drinking a lot of Old Crow for New Year's tonight.
