Blended scotch is the superior choice for cocktails and mixers because of the reduced cost

It's also fine to drink on rocks if you want something cold, and fine to sip neat if you want something a bit milder and easier drinking than a single malt

It's great to serve to pleb houseguests too

If there isn't a cheap bottle of blended scotch in your bar, you're doing it just as wrong as someone with only blended scotch.

Pretty shitty fucking thread here guys, let's get back to the discussion about blends vs single malts.

Now I believe there are some decent blended scotches out there (Compass box, Wemyss) but they always tend to be vatted, pure malt, or blended malt whiskies. Once you add in the grain whisky (like Johnnie Walker, Dewars, or 95% of most blended scotches) is when you lose quality and taste. It becomes too smooth, too sweet, and frankly, too boring for most serious drinkers.

Now single malts, they have a variety that is hard to find in blends.

One is made in Scotland the other is made in Ireland. That is the only reliable difference. Generally speaking though, Irish whiskey is distilled three times, while scotch is distilled twice. This is not always the case though. Scotch whisky is more likely to be prayed, yes, but there is unpeated scotch whisky and I know of at least one peated Irish whiskey (Connemara).
