It looks better than it tastes. But boy does it look good. I love the minimalist, old-fashioned packaging and the little red tray. The burgers and fries are picture perfect. What an honest meal at an honest price...

As for flavor, it was OK. Here in the South, you can close your eyes, spin in a circle, and start walking until you run into a bar or restaurant. You'll find a better burger practically anywhere.

It could use more condiments, but that is for the diner to add.

As for thick, my standard thickness for a hamburger is 1 to 1 1/4 inches. They come out perfect, if cooked properly.

Far too many people use a "monkey see, monkey do" approach to cooking. For hamburgers, that means that their idea of the best hamburger is based on what fast food places cook. But fast food places don't cook hamburgers to achive the best quality and the greatest flavor -- their number one concern is reducing the cost of the ingredients. That is hardly conducive to making a great hamburger.

A few months ago, someone here claimed that I couldn't possibly be making hamburgers that thick.

A couple of weeks ago I thought of that after forming the patties and so out of curiousity I went and found a ruler. Sure enough, they were all in the 1 to 1 1/4 inch range.

And they came out with exquisite flavor.

Very fresh oil, on the other hand, results in very light colored fries, at least for me.

Sorry them, I thought you were deliberately posting silly spice combinations.

Use whatever you like in your burger, of course. But normally the only seasonings used are salt and pepper. Some people add things like garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, or paprika but that's unusual. Generally it's just salt and pepper. And some people don't even use that.

In my opinion, yes. The reason is that the meat has a different cooking time than the other ingredients, so if you mix them into the burger then something always ends up either over- or under-cooked compared to the rest. Keep the patty as meat only. Add the other items as toppings.

>> No.6093757

>>6093409

The more you manipulate the beef in the hamburger, the more you reduce the quality. If you are used to hamburgers made by pressing everything together in tight little patties, then you have probably never eaten a first rate hamburger and it wouldn't matter.

With hamburgers, minimal handling of the meat is the key. The less you work it, the better. You shouldn't be forming hamburger patties as if you were kneading bread.
