Are Secret Menus really a thing or just a thing to make someone who looked them up online feel like an asshole/moron when they ask for something from it

Both.

Some restaurants have a "Secret menu" for promotional purposes. It really isn't a secret in any true sense of the word but calling it that makes for great advertising. For example, In-and-Out burger has a so-called "Secret menu" but it's not very secret as it's actually posted on their website.

Other "secret menu" stuff isn't really worth mentioning at all, it's just old products still in the computer system, or shortcuts designed to make things easier on the cashier.

The stuff you posted doesn't actually exist, it's just some silly joke.

Well that much was obvious about the OP pic.

I found a secret menu for potbelly that basically combines sandwiches, and a few sounded fuckin fantastic but I would just feel like such an asshole if I asked for one and the worker just gave me a blank stare like wtf are you talking about.

So don't ask for them by name. Just ask them for whatever combination of ingredients you want, that way there's no confusion.

Ask for any old sandwhich a place had and they probably can make it if they worked there then. Computer systems add stuff a lot but rarely take much off in fast food from what I can tell.

Certain place can't make old stuff of course like anything on a kaiser roll at wendys can no longer be made cause they no long use kaiser rolls.

I was totally expecting some stupid fucking buzzfeed-tier infographic. I was pleasantly surprised. Thanks OP.

I never want to order from a "secret menu" because I figure the people working there would have no idea what I'm talking about. I get that people at in n out are trained for it because it's really not secret anymore, but is shaniqua from the hood working at taco bell really gonna know what I'm talking about when I ask for an incredible hulk? Had to look that up just now.

The rule at Starbucks is you have to say what all is in it. You ask for a cotton candy frappuccino, I'm going to ask what's in it, even though I just made 5 of them for your bitchy middle school bffs

I'd fancy a Ghost Taco Supreme at least once.

I also suspect an Atlanta Dip to be at least edible.

You'd be dipping a roast beef sandwich in literal corn syrup and caramel coloring.

I've ordered A The Feast at subway a few times. It's every single sliced meat they have. It's 8.75 and a lot of food.

Did they actually assemble the sandwich, or just give you both sandwiches separated as normal?

they just gave me both as normal I guess. Didn't think about that

My younger brother used to frequently ask the waitress for the Shepherd's Plate.

Most had never heard it before and would ask what that was.

Depends, lots of places keep old products or concept products in the system so you can technically still order them - chain coffee places like Starbucks for example has a lot of things not mentioned on the menu you can order

However most of the time even if a restaurant *does* have a secret menu the employees probably won't know what you are talking about.

Either way with most places you can pratically just tell them what you want specifically and they will make it fit to your demand 99% of the time - mcdonalds especially will basically make anything you want from their ingrediants if you asked - so a secret menu isn't necessary anyway
