So, sister's boyfriend was over at my place hanging out while I was making lunch, and pointed out how weird it was that my sister and I use dry measures to measure stuff like water and milk.

This seems to be a family thing. Growing up we always used dry measures for everything. I still do this, my sister does this, my parents do this, my grandparents did this, etc. I have a glass (or probably pyrex) measuring cup but almost never use it. The dry measures are just there and convenient and I find easier to use.

Am I the only one? Anyone else grow up with a weird kitchen habit.

I pretty much just eyeball everything.

I only used dry measuring for the majority of my life at home, and still do now that I'm on my own. I don't see why not to

Pyrex for liquids, cups for dry, not really hard. Only for baking though, if you measure anything else you're probably a shit cook anyway.

This guys got it. I'd like to add a little to that though, baking should also include fickle savories like souffles and some tarts. Not measuring something that requires a dairy to egg ratio is asking for problems.

>thinking weight is significant for much more than flours
A cup of oats is a cup of oats regardless of where you are. Pretty much same with sugar. Flour is the only dickass ingredient that compresses itself and changes volume with humidity.

lol i stopped even eyeballing ingredients.
now i just add really rough approximate amounts, its great every cake is different :-)

it's a good thing flour is a minor ingredient

It's a good thing everyone is cooking with ratios because they work in the industry instead of being practical and measuring everything but flour by volume because it's quicker.

I own and use a gram scale, but you're really being pedantic.
