Wines, beers, whiskeys, brandies, rums, vodkas, liqueurs, and all other booze, especially those which would make nice Christmas gifts.

Pic related, one of the tastiest things I've ever received from a friend.

I got some jagermeister today for £12.50, it's so much cheaper at christmas than other times.

I considered some dows port, £6 for a bottle which looks pretty good, but they also had cockburns for £8, any recommendation on which to get?

Can anyone recommend any good, liquer available in the UK? I'm thinking kirsch or grappa or something, but I want to expand my horizons a little beyond just beer.

If you want more smoke, I'd suggest a Springbank or cask strength Laphroaig. CS Laphroaig is a lot more interesting than generic Laphroaig, and Springbank is generally high quality but not easy to find. Longrow is another peaty one from Springbank distillery, but I've never had it.

Another good alternative would be to try and find and independent bottling of some distillery you've already had, since it'll probably be a bit different in the way it is handled, but that isn't easy to find either.

"This deep, burnished-gold whiskey has a somewhat fragrant nose and the aromas develop an almost wine-like character, with a hint of almonds lurking in the backdrop. The body is big and silky and the palate is far spicier than the nose leads you to believe, but there are also violet notes here, along with a touch of caramel and a hint of old leather. The finish is very leathery and very long. 96/100"

They can't re-use them for Bourbon because the standards require a new barrel. However it's very common for used bourbon barrels to be used for aging other spirits. There's a massive market for used bourbon (and other) casks/barrels. A used barrel that is still mechanically sound (e.g. it doesn't leak) is actually worth a substantial amount of money.

I think it has more to do with cognac being given as a gift, rather than "being seen drinking cognac". It fulfills a purpose, same as blue label and some other highly recognized products. Maybe people actually do think that way with cognac, but it just seems strange.

The issue is that armagnac is kinda rare in Ontario, as our liqueur store are all government run for that sweet, sweet tax money.

Aside from the obvious fact that a bottle of jerez brandy is probably going to be cheaper in spain than in north america, in general the lowest prices on that site are not an accurate reflection of market prices for a lot of things. I am not just talking about this brand of spanish brandy, they come up when I search for a lot of wines. It's like pricewatch for computer parts (are they still around?), you can safely ignore the results from the first 5 or 6 rows because there's a catch, or it's wrong, or it's a scam, or something.
