>italian restaurant for aunts birthday
>party of 12
>reservation made ahead of time
>call to confirm the day of
>food is fine
>there is a live band that is way too fucking loud
>staff starts clearing peoples plates before everyone is finished eating
>bill comes and the waitress informs us their credit card machine hasn't been working so its cash only
>dont think that would have been appropriate to mention before hand? like when I called?
>have to use their in house ATM machine
>the limit is $200 at a time
>have to use it 3 times to get enough money
>$2.50 fee each time
>they refuse to refund the fee

is that even legal? I'm tempted to 1/5 this place so hard on yelp

>> No.6044111

Actually, to be honest, it is on them to tell you when something isn't as it normally would be.

It's like taking an order and waiting to tell someone they were out of the food they ordered when all the other's food arrived.

>> No.6044130

Pretty sure this is troll but I'll bite.
How in the fuck could you really be bitching over $7.50 in a goddamn charge after spending SIX HUNDRED FUCKING DOLLAR ON ONE GODDAMN MEAL. Fuck you Op. Yes I mad. You didn't have to use their machine one of you could have left and got the money they didn't force you to use theirs they didn't force you to eat there.

>> No.6044132

Did you leave a tip?

>> No.6044143

Regardless, that's a shitty thing to do when someone's spending $400+. Tell the manager you're going to leave a poor review unless they make it up to you.

Have you ever worked in a restaurant? You can't predict when the credit card machines go down and it can happen out of nowhere with no explanation. It's a nightmare enough when it happens without customers getting pissed off about something beyond your control.

>>6044130
Also this. You had to have spent at least $400-600, $7.50 might as well be nothing.

Pretty sure that's code for "get the fuck out of our restaurant you filthy rodents".
Did the party of 12 consist of 4 adults and 8 sceaming kids?

>> No.6044158

>>6044151
That's the point, though. $7.50 is nothing on a bill that could have been $600, so why didn't the restaurant cover it since it was their problem to begin with?

>mandatory gratuity added to parties of 8 or more

Also last time I checked this was the hospitality industry. They shouldn't charge at fees until their card machine works if they aren't telling people ahead of time. It's fucking winter, I'm not about to leave my guests to wander around looking for a free machine

So by not leaving a tip the restaurant effectively did cover the cost of the atm fee.

Also, what kind a restaurant has an in-house atm machine in your part of the world (where it's winter)?
I only ever see them in a bistro where they have pokie machines.

>> No.6044245

Whenever my parents think they're gonna do something expensive, they've always made sure to bring lots of cash in case the credit is rejected. I always thought they were a little silly, but I guess OP's story demonstrates to me that it's better to be safe than sorry. And you can always deposit the money back later if you don't use it.

In a restaurant? You now realize how redundant this comment is!

Contact corporate head or owner and voice complaint. If they make amends you can return, if they don't, you won't. I don't care as much about the money (I do care about it), as I do them going out of their way to apologize.

If you feel they should offer some refund, never return if they don't. I do admit I informed a young hostess once that I wanted to "fucking kill her" as I sat, with two people three feet from her waiting for my name to call, and after an hour I asked and she told me she had called my name. I assure you now reader, she had not! Fucking liars. The manager came to ask if I had a problem (kick me out) and quick talked my way into making him apologize. He shouldn't have started by telling me the hostess was so upset that she was crying and he was going to let her go home. I explained how I had never been treated so poorly or rudely in my life and that as a hostess if I say she didn't call my name, her job is to apologize for the confusion, and let me know she'll take care of it as best she could (again, she did NOT call my name). I assume no one is reading this, it's pretty boring and long. I then told the manager I was going to go out of my way to contact the owner and ensure the girl was let go.

I've heard that before, but let's be honest...that's what I was going for by telling the story. That and having idiots tellg me I was wrong. Obviously what I did was wrong, even a psychopath knows that (well, sociopath), but the girl was also wrong, and I do NOT like lies.

Like the show? I was 26 at the time.

As a side, not that it matters, I'm the the person that always gets served the wrong order, or has hair or bugs in his food (not like a little bug I can pick out and ignore, as I do that), I have had so many drinks spilled on me by servers (ones that had NEVER met me or new I was an ass), and I've even had food spilled on me.

I don't care how bad the overall service, food or experience is, if I tell my server that there is hair in my (all you can eat) bowl of soup, realize it's not a scam. the 8" strand of hair didn't come from my head of 0.5" hair and get me a new bowl. Maybe apologize if you want your tip doubled. Yes, usually I'm told somehow it's mine.

Irrelevant, it was an all you can eat soup (Olive Garden's soup and salad option (my brother-in-law was paying). I ordered the zuppa toscana for my soup and found an 8" hair and was told it was mine, but my hair is under 0.5".

When I told the server, I grabbed the hair from the bowl as the server watched and a piece of meat (remember, this is after I was told it was my hair) was raised from the soup.

I am an ass, but there is a black and white version of proper service, that was broken.

Sounds like a pretty shitty restaurant.

First not informing OP in the first place. If it happened during the meal they could have asked the person aside and informed him of the fact.

Second, what kind of shit restaurant has it's own ATMs inside, those aren't bank ATMs and you don't know what shit is going on in them or if there are cameras filming the keyboard.

Sounds fucking dodgy, if I were the OP I'd not only logon to the bank that issued the card to verify no strange charges have been made and also I would have tipped an insultingly low amount, not nothing so they could consider it an oversight, but real low so they get the point.

Some waitress in a fucking frenchie place was outright rude to my girlfriend and I left them a penny as a tip. That gets the point across.

>> No.6045511

Couldn't you carry cash when it's a big event like this in the first place? I mean you know that they are going to charge a fee for using your card. Not only that but the majority of people really don't care about your complaints in the first place...
