I think people forget a lot of these kinds of packaged foods evolved out of an era when most people did a lot of physical labor and food was expensive. The biggest issue in diets was actually getting enough calories.

America came of age in this environment and developed a taste for the stuff. Then we all started working in offices and not burning many calories. Everyone got fat..... and ever since we've been jumping from health fad to health fad.

They're really expensive for microwave crap but I love them so much. Almost every kind of this brand is so fucking good it stinks the house up with thai smell.
I only get them less than once a month on average but they are so worth it.

On the cheaper side the maruchan yakisobas are also good.

Apart from making homemade, I figure if I'm eating this trash I'm going all in and making beef ramen, loosely drained, with a fistful if cheddar and 4/5 the season packet.
