What's the best cheese and bread for grilled cheese?

How does one make the perfect grilled cheese, /ck/?

>> No.5868989

Put marmite and some sliced tomatoes in it.

>> No.5869023

Swiss
Dark Rye

Butter one side of the bread slices. Put cheese between unbuttered sides. Plop into medium heat pan, cook until done.

Now you're going to be late for school, so you take the sandwich with you and run out of the house, eating on the way.

>How does one make the perfect grilled cheese, /ck/?

Thickly sliced homemade whole grain bread.
Thickly sliced homemade pepper jack cheese, aged 1 year.
Home grown, sliced, green jalapeno peppers.
Butter made from neighbor's cow's raw milk (shake shake shake).
Black pepper
Cumin
PHS
Home grown, dry and powdered garlic.
Home grown, dry, crushed red pepper (from ripe jalapenos)
Cast iron skillet
-Optional: dried tomato slices, diced up

Spread soft butter on two slices of bread and sprinkle PHS, black pepper, cumin, garlic powder, and red pepper onto buttered sides. Put one slice in hot skillet, butter side down. Lay slices of green jalapeno peppers on bread, over lay with 1 thick slice of cheese, over lay that with more jalapeno pepper. Over lay that with final slice of bread, butter side up. Allow to brown on the bottom side on medium heat while gently moving it around the skillet. Flip everything and repeat cooking on the final side.

Tips:

-Do not smash.
-Extra butter in the skillet will take the flavor over the top.
-Rest finished sandwich on a wire rack for cooling cookies to prevent the bottom side from getting soft due to condensation.
-Only make one, these are hella fattening.
-Eat whole, don't slice in half or the cheese will spill everywhere.
-When you bite into the sandwich, use your fingers to help keep the liquid cheese inside from being pressed down and out the other end of the sandwich.

Maybe a fatty oil you can grill it at on.

my favorite is the cheapest white bread you can find with one slice of the cheapest american and one slice of the cheapest pepperjack (with a similar "melty" quality like the american)

cast iron skillet on medium, plenty of butter. about a minute and a half on each side.

comes out just like a lovely small diner plus a better flavor coming from the pepperjack

If you're going to try pretending to be British at least get it right. The dish you're looking for is a "cheese toasty" which is basically the same thing but rather than being cooked in a pan it's cooked in sandwich toaster/panini press (also known as toasty machine to some).

Ingredients

1 Tablespoon Butter
1 whole Medium Onion, Halved And Sliced
4 slices Bacon, Cut In Half
2 Tablespoons Mayonnaise
Several Dashes Hot Sauce (I Used Louisiana)
2 slices Sandwich Bread
3 whole Hard Boiled Eggs, Peeled And Sliced
Salt And Pepper, to taste
2 slices Cheese, Any Variety (I Used Swiss And Monterey Jack)
More Butter, For Grilling

Preparation Instructions

Melt the butter in a skillet over medium-low heat and cook the onions low and slow for about 20 minutes, stirring frequently. Remove them to a place when they're deep golden brown and soft.

Fry the bacon in the same skillet until slightly crisp. Remove to a paper towel to drain.

Combine the mayonnaise and the hot sauce and stir. Taste and add more hot sauce if needed.

Sprinkle the sliced eggs generously with salt and pepper.

To assemble, spread one side of each piece of bread with the spicy mayo. Build the sandwich however you wish: eggs, bacon, cheese, onions, more eggs, more cheese. Spread one side of the assembled sandwich with softened butter and put it butter-side down on a griddle or skillet over medium-low heat. Spread the top side with butter, then continue grilling the sandwich until the bread is golden and slightly crisp and the filling is warm/cheese is melted.

Cut in half with a sharp serrated knife and share with a loved one!

Little time consuming but if you make this ppl will like it.

Medium to medium high. Be sure to butter your bread. If you still can't get it, put down some shit parmesan cheese from a can, then put the bread on top of that. It'll take a lot longer for the parmesan to burn than the bread, and it tastes fucking great.
