Italian food is too simple with no complex flavors; it's just pasta and ketchup.

Mexican food on the other hand TAKES FUCKING HOURS but comes out delicious as fuck.

America generally doesn't go full ketchup, they'll eat Ragu and other pretty bad sauces, but only TV personalities, poor people, and Asians eat ketchup on noodles.

Also OP I like mexican food, but you can't hate on italian. Just sub your type of cheese, your choice of carbs, your parsley for cilantro, and add peppers and/or lime to make mexican. Both are excellent.

I made chile relleno once.

It literally took me about 12 hours to make everything from scratch.

It was not even very tasty. The peppers were too bitter and overpowering despite the filling having great flavor on its own.

Chile relleno is now on my list of foods to never cook again in my life. Totally not worth the effort, and I normally like mexican food.

It's the one italian dish every atheist, christian and jew grew up eating. We are a melting pot in the United States of America (God bless) and our cuisine is varied. In Japan, you only get Japanese food. In China, only Chinese. In Korea, dogs, in Sweeden, terrible fish, in Greenland, snowcones, in America, EVERYTHING!
So the representatives of Italiano cuisine for americans is the humble pizza pie and the simple tomato with meat sauce. It's so popular you can find jars of it ready to go in supermarkets.

The point is, fedora fans, non-atheists and myself all know what it's supposed to taste like so once you can cook it right, you've got a dish under your belt. If everybody else knows what it is, they can tell if you did it right.
