This really resonated with me being a poorfag when I was younger.

We ate all of it even if it was super shitty.

I lived in a super poor neighborhood and thus went to a super poor school. It was election time and they were going to vote on a new initiative to give more money to the school. Now, my school had a lot of minority children, myself included that had parents that spoke little to no English.

The iniative didn't get passed. My 4th grade teacher went on a half an hour spiel during reading time about it. She called our parents dumb for not voting for something that would most likely raise her paycheck. Then she called out the kids who had free lunch (me included) and said because we didn't pay for our lunches, our school suffered. If you ever wanted to see a bunch of minority children demoralized and feel like shit about themselves and their poorness, that was the time.

Man, fuck that teacher.

In high school they had lunches available and they weren't good, but weren't bad either, it was just more fun to meet up with friends and go out. My worst bitch about my school lunch was that the milk was almost always fucking bad.
Came in cartons like in OP.
You always tried to reach for the ones in the bottom of the coolers because the ones at the top were surely warm/spoiled. If you didn't check the expiration date and got a bad batch of milk, nobody gave a shit unless you coughed up more money to buy another.

I used to enjoy shoestring fries but they got rid of those permanently because HEALTH. Still kept tater tots and soggy crinkle cut fries.

Occasionally one would leak and then there'd be sticky cartons all around.
I'd bitch more but high school lunch is a vague memory. I never ate my freshman year, and my senior year I didn't eat at school because I got to go to college for classes and my day ended by 1pm.

depends how much the parents make.

At our school parents could file paperwork for free or reduced price lunch. The student brought home paperwork and the parents would have to put down how much they earned and other job related info.

Not sure how hard it is to falsify but I imagine fairly easy, I knew kids much better off than me who got free lunch. Back when I was in school, graduated 2003, it was a dollar and quarter. But last I heard.. fuck I actually have the district bookmarked...

right now its $1.50 according to an article from last year before school started. I thought I heard it was close to $2 though.

Anyway an extra carton of milk was a quarter, and you could get an extra burger/slice of pizza for a buck. By my junior and senior year they had these extras they couldn't put on the tray for nutrition reasons but you could buy. Lake a small carton of fries for 75c, 2 eggrolls, and the like.

Apparently though judging from pic related they've changed a bunch when they built the new high school here. It used to be one line was the "main" hot meal of the day, and there was another line that always had the square pizzas, and alternated between hamburger and chicken sandwiches. New menu looks much better, all the hot main food always looked gross as shit.

Oh, for giggles. School lunch menu in pic.

OP, sorry to hear about that. I hope it works out for you and you learn your fucking lesson.

Fact, drunk driving is illegal. Fact, you shouldn't have been driving.

I believe that alcohol may have had no impact on the accident, but, you were in a state where you are legally prohibited from doing what you did...the accident is your fault regardless of the logistics of the moment of impact.

Me, personally, I think (as Doug Stanhope outlined) we should be able to take a driving test with a confirmed level of alcohol in our system. A much more rigorous test than the standard licensing test...think reaction times, balance, judgement, etc.

.08 BAC is fucking absurd. It's a way to pull funding in for the fucking state.

I'm sure that after a 6 pack of some average to high ABV beer I could pass that test with higher scores than your average "I live in my own fucking bubble" soccer mom, teenager or senior citizen. Damn sure better than someone who is texting while driving, and let's not deny that this happens FUCKING CONSTANTLY. I wish it were more illegal.

In summation, I think our drunk driving laws are way over the fucking line...but OP broke them and would not have been a murderer if he obeyed the (fucking absurd) law.

Good post.

The most dangerous driving is distracted driving, by far.

Imo it doesn't matter whether you are distracted by a phone, your make up, a map, or an altered state of consciousness because of drugs/intoxication.

I wish the law was just about distracted driving and i wish it was just as harsh for anyone that ever took their eyes off the road for a second. You have a responsibility to yourslef and the living souls around you to remain at attention while controlling your vehicle and fuck anyone that doesn't fully understand the potential consequences of their actions in that situation.

A good drivers test would never be able to be passed by anyone who couldn't remain absolutely focused on the road for a full 30 minutes, while remaining perfectly situationally aware of everything that was happening around him.

>> No.5759830

>>5759797
>I wish the law was just about distracted driving

It is. that's the sad part. Reckless driving (for any reason) and impaired driving (again, with any substance) are already illegal. And of course violating other traffic laws is also illegal regardless of the reason.

I don't understand why there are additional laws regarding phones or drugs or alcohol when all that stuff is ALREADY illegal.

My Mom packed my lunch until I was in high school and then I packed my own after that. Occasionally on pizza Fridays I'd ditch my lunch and buy some pizza.

My lunch was usually sandwich (usually ham/cheese/toms/lettuce/mustard when I got older), sliced fruit, bag of goldfish or chips, some cookies or cake my Mom had made, juice when I was a kid, bottle of water when I was in HS. When I was going through puberty, I added another sandwich and for a minute a salad too.

I was a pampered bitch.

When I was in elementary school, we had lunch in a big room. There were 3 elongated tables, where you used to sit.
Staff would give a dish of pasta or rice(it depended on the daily menu), then some meat or fish and the vegetables.
Obviously we had not plastic dishes, but hard ones; and glasses made of real glass. And, obviously, iron cutlery.
It still is one of the sectors where every Comune spends willingly its money.

I remember having listened to a conversation among my parents when I was 9 or 10:
Basically our school was obliged to provide another kind of meal for kids with some religious problems or ethical ones or even medic ones.
I, for one, couldn't eat any dish with panna(cream) on it because I used to take medications which could led to severe consequences if taken with a "fat food".

For example: if the meal had cream on it, they used to give me a simple dish of pasta in bianco with a little parmesan cheese on it.

They still care about school cafeterias, though.
Nice to see it.

Back in highschool, I never ate the school lunchs unless they were pizza or chicken patties. However, every so often there would be a nacho side, with jalapenos.

I would shovel nothing but jalapenoes onto my tray and then I'd get whatever the lunch was to justify it. It'd have quite literally a tray full of the stuff. Then, I would eat them. With a fork, just non-stop.

Everyone thought I was weird, but those jalapenos were the spiciest things I'd ever tasted. You couldn't get the same Scoville rating at the supermarket, no matter how carefully you chose the peppers. There was just something different about the lunchroom Jalapenos.

Eventually, all the capsicum started burning my intestines, so I had to stop. Luckily, this wasn't until senior year. I no longer get stuffy noses and I'm immune to most spicy foods on this side of the ghost chili.

Highschool Jalapenos changed my life.

in high school they had the bombest chicken fingers but then they switched the menu up and everything turned to shit. Now I hear that they only serve multi grain stuff that's bland as hell and all the portions are puny but still pricey as fuck. The milk now comes in bags too but I never got milk at school (lol fuck anything less than 2%)

The worst high school food was probably nachos. The chips were super thick and covered in salt, the cheese sauce was awful, the meat or beans they put on were literal shit. By the time you sat down to eat your chips were a soggy mess and it was plain terrible.

Fuck dat

Our high school had an actual milk shake machine at this little bootleg snack bar. EVERYONE loved the shakes, but they decided to auction off the machine when they built the new school.

What did they replace it with?

Smoothie King

I even found it in a top 7 'worst summer drinks' when googling fro the picture.

Absolutely nobody bought these and they actually got rid of the coolers they came out of in a month. They were always frozen solid and tasted like a kool aid packet added to ice.

I remember when I was around 7, back in the late 90's. Whenever we went to McDonald's, I always got the chicken nuggets. I was picky and skittish about textures and stuff, but they were the safest of the safe. Bland and delicious with ketchup.

Then one day I bit into one and there was a big lump of what I now recognize as gristle. It ruined them for me and I haven't had a McNugget since.
Now I'm anything but picky, yet I haven't gotten past that mental block. Everyone raves about them, but I haven't had the desire to give them another shot.

Did anyone else have french toast sticks for their school lunch?

They looked like pic related, came with a sausage and brown sugar water that was passed off as syrup. I'd always dip the sausage in the syrup first so it had more of a flavor on the french toast sticks.

French toast stick day, taco day, and steak nugget day were the only school lunches that didn't make me want to kill myself. Shame that each only came once every 2-3 weeks.

Went to public school in South Carolina, food was shit. I have pretty vivid memories of lunch in middle school, they sold shitty lunch and then also sold french fries, cookies and lemonade/sweet tea everyday. The kewl kid thing to do was to just buy fries or cookie and tea. That or the girls would just skip lunch, because everyone was "anorexic" then. I can't believe we got away with eating french fries and cookies for lunch everyday, but I guess that's SC for you.

I ate entirely out of the vending machines in High School (they were healthy though, only DIET soda!!!!!!!!!)

They also sold pizza and french fries everyday in High School. I kids remember pouring ranch and mayo all of their greasy fries, and eating them in class. Always made me want to puke and the teachers didn't give a shit. Also, fights in the lunch line on fried chicken day were not uncommon.

Starving and hungry/insecure are very different. Kids in America are not starving. We conduct autopsies, and deaths of children from that sort of neglect would be reported in the news; it happens a handful of times a year, but it's due to sicko parents who keep their kids locked in a basement or closet long-term, not due to lack of food. There are food programs in every mid- to large-size city in the US to feed poor people, a welfare program that provides for the purchase of food by poor people that can't be used for booze or shoes, a supplemental nutritional program for women, infants, and children, and federally-paid-for free/subsidized lunches (and sometimes breakfasts) in public schools. Parents/guardians can still fuck up not availing themselves of these options, but they aren't going to maintain custody of the kids if they can't manage to feed them. Fatassery is a huge problem in the US, for kids both poor and rich; starving really isn't an issue.
