Something about going grocery shopping get my anxiety cranking at an all time high.
The awkward trolley moments, people looking into your trolley with their judging eyes, putting all your stuff up on that conveyor belt for the world to see and the school dropouts working the checkouts trying to make conversation.
I just want to punch someone in the face.

>putting all your stuff up on that conveyor belt for the world to see
at this point the only person really paying attention is the guy behind you, wondering if you'll leave enough space for him to start piling up his groceries too.

>he school dropouts working the checkouts trying to make conversation.
it's not an actual conversation. it's polite noises in a set formula, they utter them automatically and you respond in kind.
the only possible hangup here is when they say "enjoy your x" and you're still in "thanks, you too" mode for the usual "have a nice day"

In my neighborhood there are greengrocers, butchers and fish markets along the two main avenues. They are priced aggressively, and the quality is good. So I do most of my shopping at those places. Most Shoprite and I -think- Wegman's have a shop from home option. It's a $10 fee if you pick it up (for shoprite anyway) but at the convinience of taking your time comparing prices and finding exactly what you need instead of just trying to get out of the store and hoping you didn't forget something is kind of satisfying

Used to drive 40 minutes to do 10 o'clock shopping trips at a 24hr wegman's. They have pretty good selection though

Two Save a Lots. Two Shoprites. Two Pathmarks. Two Aldis. A Bottom Dollar. An Acme. A Superfresh. Four different Viet/Chinese stores. A Tunisian butcher. An Ukrainian produce and dry goods shop. A Viet produce shop. A Korean grocer. A Palestinian grocer. An Indonesian dry goods shop. A Polish butcher.

>Fareway
Local chain completely unrelated to pricy store with a different spelling. Less ambiance than an ALDI, but their bulk shit and basic produce is cheap and their meat counter is oldskool as shit and actually pretty affordable. Shit selection for anything remotely ethnic or exotic and they keep old people hours, tho.

>Hy-Vee
Getting increasingly upscale. Love their booze selection and deli. Produce is pretty good, but a little pricy. This is where I'll go if I need to do grocery shopping in the middle of the night.

Lol@ all the overpriced convenience food the sell in the produce section. Saw 1/2b of washed pre-seasoned "Great for the Grill!" asparagus going for like $6. Diced watermelon is like $7 for a pound. Jesus.

>Wal-mart
Usually only go here if I need to stock up on toiletries or something, but I might pick up a few things that are hard to find affordably at other places.

>Local specialty market
Live like two blocks away, so I'm in here a lot. Pretty much only buy small amounts of produce that I need for a dish I'm craving (happens pretty often), locally roasted coffee, and their awesome bread.

>Farmer's Market
Supposedly one of the better ones in the country, but the few actual produce vendors (as opposed to artistsan bullshit and ready-to-eat foods) are all mediocre and the prices are fixed. Good for people watching and hitting a food truck a few times over the summer, but I don't really bother otherwise.
