What does /ck/ think of Bob's Red Mill products?

likes, dislikes, favorites?

I've personally never tried them but am interested in adding steel cut oats to my diet and see a lot of praise in favor of this brand.

>> No.5631237

>what does /ck/ think of overpriced, overvalued stuff that's no different than cheaper altervatives other than its eye-catching packaging?
Not a hell of a whole lot, I would guess. I thought we'd evolved beyond fascination with the bright and shiny.

>> No.5631238

it's fine, it is probably the most widely available brand for many products in my area

as far as steel cut oats go I've not noticed a big difference between 3-4 brands, so go for it

I like the brand. its a bit expensive though. wholefoods has oats rolled/steelcut/etc. and a bunch of other things organic at a better price from the dispenser section. you gotta take a bag and write a number of the product on the tab though. got like 4 pounds of oats for ehh, 3$? organic tho

Hipster bullshit for vegans and organofags

"Bob" is probably a fictional personage invented by a homosexual marketing CEO in New York or Hollywood

I'm sick and tired of the marketing machine shoving this kind of nutritional BS down our throats. As a STEM major I look at you vegan liberal arts faggots and laugh. Guess who's going to get a job after we graduate? Protip: not you.

This is pretty much the only brand of xanthan and guar gum that i can find on the market.

For wheat flour.. I buy bigger bags of other avalable brands for much cheaper, but for certain grinds, and types of ingredient, they are the only game in town at most of my local shops.

for example, arrowroot powder is reasonably priced (can't remember the exact price right now, but its decent because I remember buying it and being okay with it)

however some of the other bags of their stuff (can't remember exactly which thing it was) were a bit more expensive than I believed they should be. I can't remember exactly what and I'm not in wholefoods right now.

I love the brand, the quality is just great.

well why don't you all ever say so? whenever you are about to give some poor vegan a bunch of hate, wait one second and ask them "wait wait, are you a normal vegan or a hipster vegan?" and then go from there.

however, I'm sure that there are some hipsters that don't cause any trouble. everyone is different so thats another reason to not immediately hate anyone right away.

If animals are your concern there is no reason not to eat fresh local eggs, honey, etc.

Why do you believe that a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, etc and low in saturated fat and cholesterol would be unhealthy, and that adding saturated fat, cholesterol, and atherogenic and cancer-promoting compounds found in meat, and cow hormones would improve the diet?

>If animals are your concern there is no reason not to eat fresh local eggs, honey, etc.

I've seen people who consider themselves vegan but have a pet chicken whose eggs they eat once a month, and who obviously don't kill their pet when they're not good for laying eggs anymore, which you won't see even in local egg farms. I agree with you in that kind of context, but that's a very specific scenario

I have used two of their Gluten Free rice flours for breading fish and chips, and similar items, white and brown. The brown covers better for breading/battering. Still, they're both very poor for breading compared to regular flour. Can't say if that's the fault of the brand.

You're worried about brands when buying fucking oats? They're just oats.

>> No.5643874

I've tried their Scootish oatmeal and their quinoa. Both awesome, neither expensive. I didn't really shop around before buying a three dollar bag of oatmeal, so I don't know how it compares in terms of quality-to-cost, but I like it and it's plenty cheap and I see no reason to try something else. As for other brands of quinoa, I don't think I've even seen it for sale except in flavored, boxed, premade crap format.
Gonna try their lentils next just to see if there's any point in choosing them over the store brand (probably not). Also going to buy some of their chickpea flour and attempt to recreate some awesome quinoa/spinach/whatever cakes I had once.

So yes, OP, try that shit.

P.S. Some of you guys are spoiled as hell when it comes to availability of good food. I've never seen a Whole Foods or a Trader Joe's or whateverthefuck in my life, and I am not exaggerating. Best alternative around here is probably the organic section at Fred Meyer, which is admittedly pretty sweet. I gotta spend some time at their bulk dispensers and figure out what I can get there. Other than that, though, forget about it.

I work at a bakery in oregon and we get our oats from the same source as bobs red mill. They use the same oats as the cheap generic kind you find in stores.
You can go to a grocery store and buy bulk oats for like a $1 a lb, or you can spend a couple bucks for a the same amount and get bobs red mill. If you buy bobs red mill you are just paying extra for the packaging (this is true for most brands bought in a supermarket).
