They're not as sweet or airy as say, krispy creme, but I like to think that they're pretty damn good for a grocery donut. Dough's not too sweet, no yeasty taste to it, and I try to keep up on the oil so it's not old and soaking into the donuts.

Though a lot of grocers use pre-made frozen donuts which they just heat up in the oven and then decorate, my store and one other in the state are the only ones of our franchise who actually make our donuts (bag of mix, water, yeast. We also do cake donuts too). So that might be why your grocer's donuts taste like ass.

what is with people's love of Krispy Kreme? i fucking hate that shit. a good glazed donut should taste yeasty, and the glaze should be a thin and flaky delicate shell. KK just slathers it on way too thick. and the donut it'self doesn't really taste of anything. i can't even call it glazed. it's iced in that stuff.

They don't sell them among the cakes. They don't sell them among the cookies.
They are sold edge to edge with gay sprinkled, chocolate glazed, sugar dusted crullers, custard filled, and pic related.
And pic related is the second best doughnut next to the apple fritter, kids.

51 Irving St
Footscray, VIC 3011
You can't help but smile when you see this little shack open for business in the shadow of Footscray train station. It's like everything else around it has packed up and moved on. I was happy to see a more recent sign saying that the rail network had no desire to ask it to move.

The owner Nick was out (having a smoke?) when I popped my head up to the window. Instead, I was served by an Asian woman with a kind smile and cute apron. The doughnuts are 80c each, with a price scale that turns into bargain deals the more you buy. I went for just one.

She plucked a freshly fried ball of dough and swiftly injected it with berry jam using a dolphin shaped jam dispensed that I can only imagine is custom made!

Feeling like a naughty school kid, I ripped open its white paper bag a few steps from where I'd bought it and took a greedy bite. It was as light as a cloud and I could understand why the lady smirked a little at my polite request for just one. The jam was zingy, electric but smartly just enough and over towards one side of the things so it didn't go everywhere once bitten and mock you with sticky fingers once eaten. Magic.

I feel you anon. I'm craving some doughnuts. Went to a Mexican panaderia and they would make fresh doughnuts and sell a good sized coffee for 99¢, the doughnuts themselves were probably 50 or 75¢ each but they were so good. I had their maple doughnut and it was so good. The maple complimented the taste of the doughnut itself really well. The panaderia moved now because the market place it was in ended up closing. Last I heard is that the panaderia's business is thriving. I even saw that they have a delivery van that looks super professional which makes me glad that they're well off cause their bread was gr8
