I was seriously considering this last night while mouwing a gas station dog. How hard it is to nail down. Is a hot dog a sandwich? What about gyro? Or calzone? A pizza is sandwich like, but clearly not, so how dowe one draw the line?

Good thing I don't smoke weed anymore of this might bother me

>Is a hot dog a sandwich?
Yes, like a submarine sandwich.
>gyro
Yes
>calzone
Maybe if it's baked inside of the bread, it's no longer a sandwich.
>pizza
open face sandwich

I swear there was a survey and debate on this on Tumblr a while back. My take on it is that there are three requirements that create a sandwich.
1) There are two pieces of grain-based product which serve as a buffer between the eater's hands and the inside component.
2) The grain-based product must be a defining feature of the dish, i.e, without it, the dish goes by a different name. For example, a taco would fulfill this requirement because it requires the product, but a gyro in a wrap is still just gyro.
3) The grain-based product is not of equal or similar importance to the inside component of the dish. A moot requirement, but necessary because of some dishes which have a fantastic grain piece.

I'd say no. Cos' if you put a sausage on a slice of bread and then fold it, is that really a sandwich? A sausage wrapped in a tortilla, is just a taco, it was "sandwiched" between 2 tortillas then yes.
