they come out with experimental beers frequently

the top selling beers, just like tv shows, books, foods, music, movies, etc, are shitty. specifically they taste like carbonated bitter water that youd have to drink gallons of just to get the effect. im convinced most people just drink bud light or whatever to fit in with others drinking beer at social events, or drink whatever beer theyre told to drink when they walk into an award winning brewery because theyre told its good

I pretty much only drink my homebrew nowadays.

Once in a while I like to get a Flanders Red/Brown like Monks' Cafe. Because those are my favorite styles, and there's no way I'm going to have the patience to make one.

Only once in a while because they're expensive and hard to find at most beer stores.

Dark Ales/Old Ales. Also fond of Kilkenny and Guiness too, i'd really like to explore more European beers maybe on a vacation but I can only try what is in store here right now anyway.

What is your "staple" beer?
>I'm a home brewer so normally just drink my own brews and I don't think I ever brew the same brew twice in the one year, there's just too many options and different things I want to experiment with.
If I do buy a box of beer I normally get Coopers Pale Ale, fair price and I can drink it all night and don't get a hangover from it.
My boss got me a carton of Great Northern today, never tried it before though.

Whats your once in a while beer?

I really love the piney sort of IPA's so I sort of go for that style Sierra Nevada Torpedo is OK, nice to sit back on a Sunday and down a six pack.

Staple: Alfa(because I live 10km from the brewery, and grew up with that delicious stuff), and Bavaria, because student in Eindhoven

Once in a while: Trappist beers like Rochefort and Chimay, sometimes La Chouffe too. Really depends what I get my hands on, can be anything except for really hoppy and bitter stuff.

Why not always Trappistes? Because it's way too heavy for drinking in bars.

Bell's Beer; because it's good, there are all kinda varieties, it's reasonably priced and it's made in Michigan (Michigander here).

Though for some reason, while it's available in party stores and grocery stores all over the state, it's hard to find (either bottles or draft) in bars and clubs.
