Street food in your country

Fucking Africans and certain Europeans. Putting lettuce and other vegetable toppings inside a sandwich does not mean it comes with a salad. Furthermore, raw vegetables are not "relish".

I can only assume from your cavalier attitude that you have yet to partake of the wonderment that is the McGriddle. Let me enlighten you. What happens is the One True God grows them on trees in the Elysian Fields using a heretofore unused incantation. He then proceeds to magic them down to your local eatery where whatever Ghetto Bastard cook your McDonalds has rescued from welfare that week proceeds to wrap it in cellophane and pass it along to you, the fortunate consumer. You proceed to ingest this finery in the vain hope that your obviously overmatched taste buds can somehow grasp the delectable intricacies it is suddenly faced with. Is that egg? Why yes it is, and bacon too. But wait–they didn’t add…yes they did, yes they did indeed. They added cheese. And then, then my friends, they wrapped it in a sumptuous pancake bun! As your taste buds try to process that amazing piece of information, IT hits them…the syrup nugget. THE MOTHERFUCKING SYRUP NUGGET! It announces itself with a burst of confectionery grandiosity the likes of your which your palate has never seen.

If you EVER speak ill of the McGriddle again I will personally force-feed you one while I fuck you in the butt using the wrapper as a condom and then donkey punch you when the infused syrup nuggets explode in your mouth.

It's mostly typical central european stuff with plenty of slavic (most slav countries were part of hungary) and austrian (Austro-Hungarian monarchy) influence. Communism brought russian influences and a food shortage that lead to the rapid decline of classic hungarian gastronomy - formerly typical ingredients like game and wild meats almost completely disappeared from the menu, grain and corn became more prominent.

Current "homecooked" cuisine features strong, simple flavours; lots of onions, paprika (sweet and hot) and lard, not much veg. Almost all dishes that are considered traditional are one pot meals. Wiki on this is actually fairly accurate: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hungarian_cuisine

Kebab is to Europe what pizza is to the US.

Having said that, you need to be absolutely shitfaced to actually enjoy kebab. Consuming one of these (>>5525724) will actually give me a worse hangover due to all the salt and fat. The image simultaneously makes me gag & crave. Such is life the Netherlands...

Where I'm originally from (Curacao) the typical street food consumed after a night out is a plate of french fries topped with grilled beef, chicken or pork (ribs or chops) topped with a variety of sauces (usually available: ketchup, mayo, garlic aioli, chimichurri, indonesian peanut sauce, pickled onion & scotch bonet).

Also common is conch sauteed in butter with a squeeze of lime, over french fries or rice if you're old school (the best). Some places also serve stewed goat in hotdog buns, and if you're feeling really adventurous (or you know your vendor very well) you can get goat soup thickened with blood, or an extremely concentrated fish soup with chunks of mahi-mahi.

No pictures because I've never bothered taking any, and even so, it all *looks* like shit.

From my experience every European country with kebab on the street has its own variant. The one I posted is an example of a pretty bad one though. Using pita bread has been common for some reason, but it seems the quality of the kebab is improving. Some places make their own bread and give you a roll that you can eat without a knife and fork, and which just tastes much better.

Anyway, my contribution: tamales. Here in San Diego the best ones are served after church by abuelas in Barrio Logan. They jack the prices up for Whites, which is hilarious.
