No, you cannot. The ones here in Canada are shit tier. The ones in Europe are something special but it really is all you guys got for fast food. Everything else is pretty crappy. Some cities don't have anything except kebabs. I wish we had some awesome Berliner kebab place here but I wouldn't want to switch the food options.

Gyro, doner and shawarma are all extremely similar overall and certainly look identical, but they're differently flavored.

Gyro is greek, doner is I think turkish, shawarma is arabic.

There are a couple of places around me that do gyros but they're all pretty shit tier. The local greek pizza place does these shitty gyros with pre-frozen meat sticks, but if you order souvlaki they griddle up a real rib steak and chop it up into a pita, which is 100x better.

greek gyros or souvlaki has always been more consistent. I've never really had a bad gyro... the only thing bad about it is sometimes they dont put enough meat.

but ive had so much shitwarma and doner that just is so hit and miss.... sometimes its absolutely disgusting.

I don't eat doner kebab, OP. I have a thing against cruelty to animals in Halal meat.

Also, I think the tastiest thing is including pork in rotisserie meats, something the greeks aren't afraid to do, nor the americans, nor the mexicans. We love pork. Muslims don't. So, I know you think that's superior, but even the sauce is shelf stable cheap sauce. I like a fresh dairy tzatziki. If I want chicken, lamb or beef "kebabs" I get shish-ke-bobs, aka shawarma, not the loaf of a gyro. But, like I said, overall, pork and all the blends are #1 juicy and delicious pita sandwiches. This turkish origin doner hasn't caught up with the more popular alternatives in the US for a reason.

in america it is.

While some Greek restaurants in America make gyros in a traditional way from sliced meat arranged on a vertical rotisserie,[citation needed] most, particularly fast-food restaurants, use mass-produced gyros loaves, of finely ground meat pressed into a cylinder and cooked on a rotating vertical spit, from which thin slices of meat are shaved as they brown. Some restaurants even sell pre-formed, frozen strips of ground gyros meat, grilled or pan-fried individually, to prevent waste.

yeah sounds shitty as fuck. it should be pretty spicy, but... not "hot spicy"... they have to serve sensitive people too, you capsicum badass.

But it should be very flavorful... like.... charbroiled metballs or some shit... a symphony of flavors from the spices, the meat, and the sear.

Here is the best gyro ive ever had. Sadly that place closed down :( It was called Panos Charbroilers... if there is any russians on here they will laugh at the name. I used to eat panos at about 12:30 every day.

>I've had gyros, they are very bland and unimpressive, while I imagined doner kebab to be spicy for some reason.
Neither is spicy in a heat kind of way. They a bit different flavor profile, but the sauces are different. The major difference is that the gyro is a blend of pork, delicious pork, some amount of lamb, and veal or beef. It's meatloaf that packs a flavor punch. Herbwise, the halal doner is oregano and such. Same deal, just minus the expensive lamb and minus the juicy pork that self bastes.

The sauce they add to a doner kebab is ketchup and harissa (so cumin and a mild amount of other seasonings). The sauce on a gyro is garlic bite punched sour cream and yogurt sauce with lots of cooling cucumber and mint. If a muslim place even offers a version of tzatziki, you can be assured it's more like a shelf stable mayo ranch dressing devoid of dairy and fresh anything.

As far as toppings go, like a falafel, a doner kebab will likely offer some form of pickled cabbage. A gyro will likely offer a lot of crisp sweet onion, maybe some cucumber, lettuce, tomato.
