A bunch of tea got clearanced at work so I bought a couple boxes to try. There were others with peach and blueberry but I'm not sure if I'd like them and they had a lot more sugar.

I also tried roiboos chai mix and guayaki/yerba mate, they don't taste like the stuff I normally drink but they're not bad.

I don't get the hate against un "pure" tea. I mean I get that its not technically correct, but fuck man. We're just talkin bout drinks here.

Anyways. I'm not up to most of that stuff, but matcha, I drink matcha almost every day.

This is where I've gotten all my matcha from so far.

http://www.o-cha.com/home.php

Absolutely love the stuff. It is a bit expensive, but, so far my favorite I've tried is actually the cheapest they have. $11.37 for 30 grams, which can easily last a month at my rate. Unfortunately they ship straight outta Japan so it costs a bit extra if you want to get it at a decent rate. They offer slower shipping thats like $5 I think, but its slow, no tracking, uninsured. Definitely worth the $15 or so a month if I'm feeling the matcha.

As for all other interests, a really nice basic site is http://uptontea.com/shopcart/home.asp

Sites real basic, but good prices on good tea. They've got several sampler packs you can check out, as well as offering samples of everything on the site. Great way to start trying things out.

If you like matcha, you should try some good sencha some time too.

Yup. Roasted rice and green tea. It's existence is owed entirely to poor peasants using old rice to stretch out their tea supply.

Newfag detected. Get rid of the name.

I've been enjoying a blend of ginseng oolong and lychee black a buddy brought back from China. A pot of that while reading comics on my balcony is bliss.

It's shit like that (and a whole bunch of other stuff) that makes me wish I went into anthropology and the study of past human behavior and stuff. It's fascinating to wonder who decided that it'd be super good to take these random leaves, dry them, and put them in some water.

>> No.5491164

>>5491158

Yeah, I've wondered about that too, some of the oldest shit we do is like, hella fucking complicated. Like beer, it's a huge fucking process and people were doing it like 5000 years back.

I assume they started out with a really shitty version of whatever they were doing, and then refined the shit out of it through the generations.

I think if you inspect that popcorn closely you will find it's actually rice. Them grains are still swaddled in their bran layer, and if that bran is tough and intact enough the insides can become super-heated under pressure, then they explode and the expanding rice plasma quickly cools into the shapes you see there.

tl;dr rice can pop like popcorn.

Question:
I had a tea that tasted kind of like salty fish soup in a temple, that it was bitter, astringent, salty...yet still tasted like tea. What could I have been given?

>> No.5494764

>>5494421

You just described pu-erh.

>>5494253

You're right, the picture isn't barley tea. Barley tea is a beverage made from roasted barley, which is pictured.

I've always purchased it in giant cold brew tea bags, which contain cracked or very coarsely ground barley. The traditional method is, not surprisingly, boiling whole grains in a pot and then straining it.

Teabags are very convenient to carry your tea fix out and about. Instead of paying $3-4 for a cup of hot water and a tea bag at some cafe, you just ask the kids at the McDs to get you a cup of hot water.

Mitsuwa anon, if you're still here, go for the sakura sencha. My girlfriend likes the sakura kocha (Japanese black tea) as well.

As far as the food court, they have hojicha ice cream, which I recommend. Get a fresh taiyaki, like try to get one as they're just putting out a tray.

Candies/snacks/whatnot- go for Morinaga caramels if you're into caramels, they're fucking amazing. And Pocky. Basically bring a bunch of money and blow it on whatever looks good, it's what I did both times I went and the results were good.
