Hello /ck/ I want to start drinking whiskey.

I assume the taste will grow on me, so the only way I can get to like it is by drinking it more often.

Any suggestions on what to drink or drink it with?

I'm open to anything really cause I don't really know the difference, bourbon, rye, Irish, Scottish. I'm in the UK.

Also post your favourite whiskey

Because it will end up over diluting the drink and ruining it. Get some whiskey stones. You can make your own with any non-porous rock if you don't wanna buy overpriced retail ones.

Don't listen to these anti-ice communists, OP, I've is perfectly acceptable in whiskey

After you've tried it neat. Try it once with nothing, and you have an idea of what it's all about. Then you can add ice or water to your hearts content.

My favorite whiskey is Chivas Regal. Blended scotches tend to taste better for drinking many in a row in y opinion. Single Malts are cool but I never want more than one or two of them. Dewar's 12 is also pretty good.

As far as American whiskey goes, try Corner Creek bourbon. It's small batch and inexpensive, but fucking delicious

ICE

>> No.5351034

>>5350999

This is not even the whole issue. Diluting your whisky with huge chunks of ice is not so good, but whiskey stones are not escaping the real problem with ice: drinking your whisky cold. Cold dulls the taste buds and can interfere with appreciation of a good whisky.

Drink it neat, room temperature, or with a tiny bit of water to cut the alcohol content.

Or, alternately, drink it however the hell you want because it's your whisky and you presumably paid money for it.

The Flavors are very strong, and after a couple of them they start losing impact and getting mixed up in your head. Whiskey appreciation is funny because alcohol makes you want more of it, but appreciating it requires an unsoiled palate. It forces you to try them one or two at a time, no matter what your alcohol gene tells you to do. Next time you're out at a derby bar, try a single malt whiskey, and then switch to a blend you like. They're cheaper and usually, in my experience, tastier in a different way.

Whiskey/whisky out of the bottle tastes more like an industrial chemical to me.

But a jigger of whiskey and a splash of water is completely difference. Instead of an industrial chemical, you have something that is often quite enjoyable to drink. You can pick up flavors in the whiskey that are pretty much undetectable without the water.

Over the years, I've drank a number of different whiskies and have some preference for Irish Whiskey. Currently I've been drinking Jameson's when I drink whiskey (I don't drink alcohol very often).

I'd like to get some Paddy's Irish Whiskey but none of the liquor stores in my area sell it.

OP, listen to me

A lot of fags here are being pretentious and trying to sound cool.

here's what you do... buy a bottle of fairly popular Canadian whisky or American bourbon. These brands could include crown royal, forty creek, Windsor, woodford reserve, or makers mark. These are all mass produced and a good place to start. I suggest mixing it with a splash of coke for a "blacktooth grin" until you develop a taste for it. Then eventually you will enjoy it on the rocks or neat when you venture into heavy scotches and more complicated, expensive libations.

Let me break this down.

Never drink whisky with ice. Ever. If the whisky is too strong, add a couple of drops of water.

Don't drink blends. They are a waste of money.

Get the following bottles if you are a beginner:
Old Pulteney 12
Glenfarclas 15
GlenDronach 15
Lagavulin 16
Highland Park 12
Dalwhinnie 15

Nothing wrong with Jack Daniel's. I think that Buffalo Trace is the best bang for your buck. Bulleit is good stuff and pretty widely available. My personal recs are Bulleit Frontier bourbon (although can be pricy depending where you are) or Buffalo Trace (amazing value for price, really good stuff, one of my favorites)
