I don't eat anything that is pronounced so differently than it is spelled. A man has got to take a stand somewhere.

What a retarded animal. It's protective shell covers a quarter of its vulnerable mass at best.

Since OP never got a serious reply:

Geoducks are the "clams" that are in most of the commercial clam chowders and frozen "fried clam strips". They get commercially harvested, chopped into pieces, and sold as commodity clams. They taste fine. Most people have eaten them hundreds of times without ever knowing that they were chewing on giant cock clams.

Go, Geoducks go,
Through the mud and the sand,
let’s go.
Siphon high, squirt it out,
swivel all about,
let it all hang out.

Go, Geoducks go,
Stretch your necks when the tide
is low
Siphon high, squirt it out,
swivel all about,
let it all hang out.

Wait so do these fuckers actually grow like this in nature?

Or is it exploding out of the shell because we grow them in farms so there's no need for it to stay within the shell if there are no predators around to eat it

They certainly do. I remember Anthony Bourdain once went geoduck harvesting on No Reservations.

>> No.5270832

I had an amazing geoduck stir fry at a very expensive Chinese restaurant a few years ago. So positive, I guess. I haven't had it since.

I consider buying it when I see it at the market, it's collected just off shore from where I live, but it's about $35/500grams fresh so I don't generally feel like it.

That and the fact that the ones I see for sale are big enough to be tipping 100 years old. It seems shitty to eat an animal that lived so long.

Yeah, the pic in OP is when they are fully bloated up and filtering. About 80% of that volume is just sea water that they're pumping through themselves. If you scare them, they shrink down to nothing and can close their shells.

>> No.5271758

It's not for everyone. It's hard to farm, and hard to harvest but the geoduck produces the westcoast hundreds of millions of dollars each year.

The Chinese have a hardon for it and pay out the ass for live exported geoduck. Right now the license pool in BC is well over $250m dollars on limited quota.

Geoducks put the dick portion of their body into the ground to "feed".
