Part-time baker.

I make probably slightly under $1,000 per month. Looking for a full-time real job right now, but this is serving me well enough for the moment.

Last month, according to my budget, I spent $98.36 on groceries and $69.87 on eating out, for a total of $168.23.

Catering at a local company

Really depends. 750-800/month

Recently, I've been spending less on groceries because

1. 300 rent, 30-40 goes to utilities, 50 on gas 2 times a week. AKA broke ass college student.

It helps a lot that I work at a food place. At the end of the month, I can take home whatever leftovers I want. My boss also offers me food here and there. I've been doing very good at using up food that's in the house.

Erm, anyway.. I spend about ~$50/month (every 2 weeks) on groceries; Boyfriend and I switch every week for groceries.

When I eat out, I use groupon/living social (i.e $5 for $10 worth of food, etc). So I probably use $20 out of pocket ($40+ value) for eating out.

Can't speak for the others, but good coffee, milk from local grassfed cows at an independent dairy, high quality meats from an independent bucher or the farmers market, etc.

Quality ingredients cost more in some areas. I could save a lot by getting shitty UHT hormone milk, grocery store slime meat, and that kind of thing, but why. I'd rather eat well than have a fancy car or pay $120 a month to watch fight club on TV.

The point that Texas is the best place in the Midwest? It's not even the Midwest, it's the South. Your geography is broken.

Also for Midwestern cities you forgot Minneapolis/St. Paul, they actually have culture and liberals and sort of good restaurants by Midwest standards. Chicago is alright too.

But KC as shitty as it may be is doing pretty well. Low taxes, and google fiber is actually causing some economic development.
