hey /ck
how are you suppose to wash vegetables?

would just rinising them with water be enough?
or do I really have to buy one of those vegetable wash products?

Lather up some dish soap, thoroughly clean them, then rinse it off. No need to buy special products.

bump
anyone?

>> No.5233379

just rinse them

>> No.5233384

Depends on the nature of the vegetable and how it's grown. Root vegetables like potatoes typically need a good scrub down since they grow in the dirt. But something like hydroponically grown strawberries could either just be eaten or given a quick rinse. Just look at how dirty something is and make a judgement call.

>using dish soap
I never understood this.

Just rinse under cool water, gently scrubbing to make sure all the dirt and bits get washed off.

>> No.5233385

just split the core of the veggie like the core of a romaine lettuce and wash the dirt off

How about like Romaines and Lettuces?

Sometimes I feel like if I don't rub them enough they have a layer something that feels slippery

The idea is to get rid of chemicals, dirt and insects. You shouldn't add more, for chrissakes, so no, do not use detergents or washing solutions. Just rinse by hand over running water, then in a washing basin separate the items by hand - such as salad or cabbage leaves, broccoli florets, leek layers - and make sure you scrape off any dirt.

I think you can add some vinegar to a sink full of water and it will clean them up.

mfw my grandmother did this. That's when we knew her dementia was getting bad. And she blew up two microwaves and wandered away from home in the middle of the night in february.

Pleb. Mine took two strokes and is still chugging on, as smart as ever. The woman is a fucking tank and a miracle worker in the kitchen. Must suck having shitty grandparents like yours.

>> No.5233919

Well, ideally you leave them 5-10min in warm water wiith baking soda but I usually just leave them in cold water and sometimes add the b soda.

it also depends, if they are organic a simple rinse is enough.

>> No.5234292

I actually do use soap sometimes, just regular hand soap like Dove. If it's something inherently dirty like a potato or bell pepper I'll suds up my hands and cover over the food a little and rinse it all off. Same too with apples because god knows how many people already touched those and I'm not putting that directly into my mouth, germs and all. As long as you rinse it there's no danger using soap.

But lettuce and stuff I just rinse under plain water. Carrots I don't even bother with since I just peel them anyway.

really dude?
just... wow.

>>5233919
never thought of that, seems reasonable.

i keep scrubbing pads dedicated for potatoes. other than that a good rinse is usually enough. spray down with vinegar water mix if cooking for people

eating raw veggies is always risky. eliminate most risk by cooking your veggies.

>> No.5234613

I put them in the dishwasher for little bit. It works great.
