Not quite sure I understand people's weird obsession with this stuff.

>> No.5216221

me either, I didn't even like it when I was a kid

It's delicious

Might be ironic. Like that whole bacon thing.

I tried it once because people kept saying it was so good. I took one bite and threw the rest out because it was so vile.

We don't have an "obsession" with it. We enjoy it, we buy it, we eat it, the end.

It's CANADIANS that are obsessed with it. Ask them.

>> No.5216322

>>5216288
Not a Canadian, but they're obsessed because it is the GOAT mac n cheese.

>> No.5216332

Canadian here. It's cheap, easy to make, and one of the first meals that kids here learn to make. There's definitely a bit of bacon-esque obsession going on, though; it's not even a Canadian product, but after our families survived on it during the Great Depression, it's become kind of a staple. It's very easily customizable; people put sliced hot dogs or other shit in it. I usually squirt some srirachi in because it blends really well with the "cheese" sauce.

It's redneck ramen. It's a cheap as fuck and quick version of a classic American dish.

Now this shit is actually kinda tasty.

Back to nature has better white cheddar, Annie's comes out too watery.

I have to admit I haven't tried any of these in years, and I've never tried the Back To Nature brand at all. I just make it from scratch the once every couple of months I crave Mac and Cheese.

The yellow die in this shit caused cancer. We used to inject mice 50mg yellow #6 and like 30% of them started to develop malignant tumors within the year. In fact I think Kraft wasn't allowed to sell the yellow dyed ones outside the US.

I thought annatto, i.e. the 'natural' yellow color, was the one they discovered caused cancer, so food companies had to switch to the artificial yellow colors.

>> No.5216419

>>5216403
No, we're just several times the size of mice, and don't take in the equivalent of 50 bowls of mac and cheese a day in dye.

Not accusing that study inparticular, but a lot of "scientific experiments" are bullshit.

quantities don't actually affect cancerigens, it just makes it happen faster. A human fed with that shit regularly from young age is likely to get a cancer 30 or 40 year later and that's hella young to get a cancer.

Where can I buy a straight up jar of the cheese powder?

>> No.5216490

it's pure nostalgia for those who grew up with it. to this day, despite knowing how to make much higher quality mac n cheese from scratch, i'll still happily make a batch of this shit with a chopped up ham steak in it.

>> No.5216501

>>5216476

You can order cheese powder in bulk off Amazon, and most online spice companies sell it too. In general, the orange varieties will taste like Kraft's and the white cheddar ones will be sharper.

constipation in a box.

I like when you get a bit of the dry flavor packet that gets stuck inside a piece of macaroni and when you bite into it concentrated flavors embellish your senses.
