What the heck is this thing?

I've had it for years because I thought it might be the parts to some kind of vacuum coffee pot, but it doesn't match any design I've ever seen.

I think whoever is selling that just stuck a stopper in the top and called it a carafe with a $45 price tag.
How are you supposed to use it? Brew coffee in a carafe, then pour it in this one? What kind of machine does it fit underneath?

>> No.5170880

Ah, from back in the day when people actually used to "serve" coffee instead of glooping it from whatever brewing device or buying it from starfucks. Sad, sad decline of society.

There's no hinge, the top is open.

And somebody did just stick the stopper in. A lot of the other images on google images show it with a different type of lid.

Okay, from owning this damn thing for years, I think it actually clicked tonight. Since I know that it's NOT a half of a vacuum coffee pot and that it takes a stopper I started to think about how you actually brew coffee in it.

And since it's so old, it might predate drip brewers and such. So my guess is it actually took some kind of pour over filter. Like a cone you'd stick in the top, add the grounds, and then slowly pour the water through. When you got done pouring, you got coffee.

And it sits on top of a warmer, with a candle below.

Hmm, might actually try it out now.

Looks like it actually is the bottom half of a vac pot.
