Soup /ck/,

Currently having an argument with my [imaginary] girlfriend (actually real) - is quinoa really that much healthier/better for you than couscous? I'm arguing that it's not that much better for you than couscous since that's all I ate in college, but she's insistent that quinoa trumps it in every category (inb4 grain vs. pasta)

Pic unrelated

It may or may not be, but the current Quinoa fad is absolutely fucking over the poor villagers who depended on it for cheap nutrition in their rural town. Prices have skyrocketed.

Fucking white people.

aaaannnd when demand outstrips supply we do what? increase production, that';s right! Maybe if they weren't from a throwback retardo socialist wetback country they'd be able to keep up with such basics of economic reality.
Don't worry, eventually the States will just start growing it to meet the demand and that will be the end of it. But congrats on missing the boat.
OP your gf is right, compared to cuscus quinoa is a super nutritive food product.

it is in terms of nutrition but not in terms of taste, cost effectiveness, or consumer responsibility.

too late for that. If we stopped buying it the backlash from all the wasted farm investments would hurt their country more.
