I was only recently awakened to the true power of anchovies. I'm sorry I didn't understand them sooner.

This sauce is good but I can't figure out any more ways to modify it.

Excuse my foreigness, are anchovies sardelles?

Or are they a very special fish?

wikipedia says they are in the herring family, but here in Germany we dont have anchovies, everything is herring. Especially Matjes, the northern German dish.

I've never had anchovies, but I've had sardines.

Canned fish is.. idk.

I usually catch fresh Bass or Norther Pike for my plate with my trusty $350 fishing rod/reel combo.

I use anchovies often. Last time was in a clam-anchovy sauce for some grilled fish. It was glorious. Anchovies will melt when cooked, and the "fishy" scent dissipates and you're left with a richness and saltiness that is unparalleled. It's a must for tomato sauce. And I make a great pasta topping using anchovies, butter and olive oil, minced shallot and garlic, minced canned sardines, breadcrumbs, lemon and parsley. YUM.

Sardines and Anchovies are very, very different flavours. Where sardines are pretty mild and fishy, Anchovies are an intense, salty flavour that brings out the flavours of other foods very well.

I never ate puttanesca as a kid, I only discovered it a few years ago. I make it almost once a week now, I couldn't live without it.

Love anchovies, just wish there was a better way to store them. I'm the only one that eats them, and everyone botches when there's some around, no matter how tight a container I use.

I made puttanesca for the first time yesterday ... hnnng it was great, had to force myself to stop eating. Was pretty salty though, may have to rinse the capers and/or first the next time. I poured in a good portion of the oil the anchovis came with, that may have been a mistake.

These are just name translations. They are indeed anchovies.

Ive tried so hard to like sardines. Anchovies on pizza are ok i guess. Im just not picky so I eat them if on a group pizza or something. I fucking love seafood though and I cant make myself enjoy little fish out of a can or even cooking them. Is there a certain kind I should try again? When I open the tin it just stinks to high heaven and kills my hunger. Are canned oysters any good? I love raw and steamed oysters.

>> No.5072378

I had them once but they were really salty, I mean I don't even mind salty that much but these were like a salt lick. The bones were really tiny and bothersome too.

Did I just have a bad batch or are all Tinned anchovies are like this?

>> No.5074519

The store near here used to have these little tins of anchovies pinwheeled around capers.

I put them on Swedish crispbread on a small layer of cream cheese.

No other paradise exists.

I used some for dinner last night -

Mama Mary's pizza crust brushed with olive oil, Classico pizza sauce, ANCHOVIES, mozzarella, parmasean, fresh tomatoes, basil, salt, pepper, and dollops of pesto.

It was the bomb son.
