No, you can find it at any market. You just can't find salted black licorice.

it's everywhere, in a variety of styles. but it's all pretty mild and bland.

You can't just waltz into a gas station and pick some up but there are definitely shit tons of places that sell black licorice of at least halfway decent quality.

>> No.5033146

Pure licorice is very, very difficult to find in America. Nearly impossible, actually. I've seen it sold only once.
Salmiakk is a bit easier, but still uncommon. Several stores in my area sell it, though.
Allsorts are sold in most sweets shops, but I don't believe they should count. Mild black licorice is sold in near every grocery in the US. Stronger types are available from time to time, but are not popular. Soft, Aussie-style licorice has grown in popularity in recent years, but is quite mild in comparison to what is available in licorice-eating Europe.

Really, it depends on what sort of black licorice you mean. Also, why do you say "black licorice?" What other kind is there?

>> No.5033168

no one likes black licorice here because we have actual candy

If OP is a foreigner he will be disappointed. The vast majority of "black licorice" in the US is basically sweet candy with a little bit of licorice flavor. If OP is used to the strong European stuff he will be disappointed. If he's looking for the Aussie stuff the American is pretty close.

>>5033146
I agree with this post 100%, it's mirrored my efforts exactly in finding both pure licorice and salmiak.

Daily reminder that black licorice is a disgusting "sweet" made up of ground-up rats and vermin.

My dad loves it but he's from Macedonia and he manages to find it here. You could always buy anise tincture and place a few drops on red licorice and it would taste the exact same.

>black
>licorice

That's the way licorice fucking comes.

I'm 'murrican, btw. It just pisses me off that twisslers or redvines convinced everyone somewhere in the 90's that there was something called, "red licorice", and then people started hearing about this other yicky thing called, "black licorice".

I fucking love licorice, and while you can find it in the US, most people here are either unaware of it, or for some reason (there are a good handful of reasons) hate it.

Go to a health food store and buy some panda brand shit. It's probably not the same as whatever you're used to, but is the best chance of finding something decent wherever you might be.

Nah, I'm really just that awkward guy who "ironically" makes fun of the people I'm around, when I'm around people and willing to give an opinion, about how stupid their aversion to something I enjoy is, without bringing up the fact that most everyone else in the world makes fun of them for not knowing what they're missing. And by "most everyone else" I mean a few countries in Europe.

I fucking detest "'murrica vs US" shit, but licorice is the one thing that has always infuriated me.

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS RED LICORICE!

No, that's not black licorice.

Go try some natural black licorice for once. It doesn't taste like a spicy tire. Also what the fuck does this mean when people here can't tell the difference between artificial licorice in America's convenience stores and what OP is looking for?

It depends on your area and the type of store available. My supermarket carries it in the natural foods section. Don't expect to find it at Walmart or convenience stores.

Where can I buy the stuff online?

Okay, not "where", but what's a good brand? Or link me to one that's good. I don't know shit about licorice but I want to give the real stuff a try.

Walmart doesn't have licorice? That's silly. Every market that has candy should have some.

And look: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Redvines-Twists-Black-Licorice-16-oz/10319872

They do have it.

They don't have those at my local Walmart. I'm not sure about this specific brand, but most candy sold as black licorice in the US is not the same as what OP is probably looking for. I don't like the artificial American stuff, but I do like real licorice candy.

It's also sweetened with corn syrup rather than sugar, and reviews on Amazon suggest that the flavor is not like good black licorice.

>Liquorice provides tobacco products with a natural sweetness and a distinctive flavor that blends readily with the natural and imitation flavoring components employed in the tobacco industry, represses harshness, and is not detectable as liquorice by the consumer

FUCK, I quit dipping two years ago, but still miss the taste of a good tobacco. This may be the thing I have been waiting for. I'm ordering some right now.
