Pudding with crispy sugar on top.

Nothing much, it's just custard with a hard sugar crust. The selling point is breaking the crust up like in OP's pic while you eat it.

eh. the sugar is a little burnt over there in the top left hand corner and also in the bottom right hand corner. i can tell you from experience that it's not enjoyable to consume burnt sugar, no matter how much you drown it in custard.

I am NOT a doctor. Ask your doctor before doing anything.

burning anything makes it bitter. it really depends on your taste buds how you receive the flavor. i'd say that most people have less of a tolerance for bitterness than they have for sweetness, but i know of no scientific studies about this.

>yfw england france and spain are all claiming to have invented this dish

the french call it creme brule, england calls it cambridge burnt cream/trinity cream, spain calls it crema catalana

>> No.5024234

I had creme brule once
They had burned it a little like in the OP pic and it tasted terribly bitter because of it. Really needs to be done right, but it didn't seem like it would be anything exciting even then.
