Going to Chipotle for the first time tomorrow, what would you recommend for a first-timer?

Also, what do you think about their stance on GMOs?

>> No.4992014

My go to burrito is steak, mild salsa (the others are too liquidy) and black beans.

Also I doubt Chipotle actually believes GMOs are harmful [they're not], it's far more likely they're just jumping on bandwagons.

>> No.4992021

They still use GMO corn, they can fuck right off.

My local Mexican taqueria grows their own corn with corn seeds passed down through generations of these humble brown creatures.

>> No.4992033

Went once and had a chicken burrito. Wished I had gone to Moe's instead, try something other than that.

I highly doubt they are GMO free. I'm tired of Monsanto shilling but I honestly don't care about GMO anymore, though I prefer organic foods if possible. I love my local farmer's market.

>> No.4992034

Went there once. Spent $13 on a burrito, chips, and a drink. It was crappy. Go to a local mexican restaurant

>> No.4992039

I don't believe that they would get rid of gmo's in all of their foods. It would cost way too much money out of their pockets and would substantially raise their prices of their foods...... right?

My problem Chipotle is that they use a bunch of cheap filler like rice, beans, and corn, in their burritos and charge you MORE than what the cheap beaner places charges you for an all steak/chicken burrito. You're basically paying more for filler ingredients. Now is that a bad thing? We probably do eat too much meat. I just think that a valid criticism is that Chipotle IS overpriced.

He's a white person who gets a kick out of interactions with brown folk who speak with accents. On a fundamental level he is deeply afraid of them and he considers this a dashing act of derring-do, perhaps a modern day version of signing up for the merchant marine to swashbuckle with pirates. He will later go on facebook to post pictures of his authentic tacos (probably the lengua because this seems to be the most exotic to him). To this type of white, for whom Chipotle just arrived and avocados are still exotic, the actual technical differences between food that isn't green bean casserole topped with french onion soup mix is irrelevant. Fast-casual places like Chipoltle, Noodles and Co., and Panera Bread are exploding in popularity for health-conscious consumers who are willing to pay a little more for better ingredients.

Most offices don't have a stove and a full set of cookware in the break room, and even if they did, it would be a horrible shit fest of dirty dishes and people complaining about the smell of garlic or whatever. That is why people patronize "fast casual" types of restaurants.

Have you ever held down a job before? You know fast food isn't something you normally go out to eat unless your alternatives are constrained by schedule and location, right? It's an alternative to lunch in a brown paper sack. It's not an alternative to preparing a full meal for yourself in the comfort of your own home.

Do you... actually consider Chipotle and other fast food places to be leisure dining treat food? Fucking disgusting, kill yourself now.

Chipotle is a half-step above mediocre. Any local taqueria will out do it, either at or below its price point.

Heck, Izzo's (another chain) does a better job, has more options, and tastier salsa/chips.

All that said, it's not terrible. Everything is seasoned very simply (cumin fucking everywhere), so if you've got a delicate palate it's easy to find something.

It's also possible to eat relatively healthy if you avoid the obvious pitfalls - which can be good too.

I like the carnitas bowl, no rice, black and pinto beans, no cheese or sour cream, fresh tomato salsa, extra hot salsa, and lettuce.

Guacamole is $2 because avocados tend to be pricier from state to state and they need to balance the expense. Yeah Chipotle, bitch!

Fuck, I'd kill for Chipotle burrito right now. Why does Chipotle have to be so fucking delicious?!

chipotle will never have 100% non-gmo foods in their menu. It would cost way to much and boost their prices to the point where they would lose more customers than the ones that actually give a fuck about non-gmo. I will continue to make my own foods at home and support the family owned restaurants that support non-gmo in all their foods (unless otherwise labeled)

I'm not a snob. But Chipotle just came to my area a year ago and /ck/ has been telling me for years that it is the king of fast food. "Giant burritos!" "OMG their Bowls!" And so yes I was disappointed, and yes there are dozens of better places to get a more appealing, quick $4-$12 lunch in my vicinity than McDs/Wendys/BK whatever.

You don't go to fast food joints to "go to restaurants with people" or to spend money. You go there because you have 5 minutes to eat.

But don't let me stop you from comparing a fast food chain to a gourmet restaurant. I bet you don't even know what the michelin guide is.

It's an option alright, but behind Chickfila, Sonic, and McDonalds, but ahead of BK and Wendys at the bottom. I stopped counting at 20 better options on Urban Spoon within a half mile. Not including McDonalds/BK/Wendys/Sonic/ or more sit down dinner places like Chilis and Macaroni Grill. Mostly local flavor.
Since We're talking lunch might as well go all out.
Local Flavor Tier 1) Terri-Lynns, Whole Hogg BBQ, Markham Street Pub and Grill, Mexico Chiquito, Star of India, Jason's Deli, El Porton, Davids Burgers, Old Mill
That is my Tier 1 Lunch within a quarter mile.

I would never even eat at a Tier 2 unless a lunch date makes a request, I just increase my radius to include 10 or so other local Tier 1s.

Is that the best your city has? Ever heard of a star? How's life in flyover country? You the guy bragging about living in Texas in the other thread?

I'm sorry if the first thing you think of when you see a fast food restaurant is "a place to spend my big bucks" or to dine out for a leisure social meal, but some people actually have perspective and understand what these things are for. It's really sad that you even made the connection in your mind.

Enjoy your chocolate lava cake or whatever it is that people in flyover land are just finally discovering.

You've never gone to McDonalds with a Coworker?
And we are talking about lunch here, not necessarily fast food? When else would you eat Chipotle? And all of those places mentioned could be just as fast at lunch as eating in your car at Sonic or bringing Chipotle back to your office. My bill is never over $9 at any of them before tip. I can take all of them to go back to my desk as well. You eat your Chipotle Bowl driving down the road? How about that football sized rice bomb burrito? No...you gotta stop and eat the fucker.
If your idea of lunch or even fast food is a $1 menu burger while on your way back to the ol' grind then we don't have anything to say to each other about this topic.
In some hypothetical where I'm traveling and want to sit down to eat and the only thing at this exit is a Wendys and a Chipotle then Chipotle can win.

Michelin star =\= Michelin rated.

If you had half a clue you'd have used the right term.

But in any case, I've been to about a half dozen starred places in NYC and Hong Kong, and more of the bib gourmand and pleb "rated" places (which seems to be the best you can imagine) than I can count.

And yet, I go to Chipotle about once a month because it's tasty and convenient, and because dining out isn't a huge fucking deal to me like it is for you.
