I just turned 21, can I get recommendations of patrician-tier alcohol to drink?

>> No.4990740

If you use the word patrician, it doesn't matter what you drink. You'll still be a faggot with a fedora on the inside. Nobody expects someone 21 to have taste. Nobody wants to see your dumb ass pretend to be fancy. Go have fun and figure it out you fucking faggot. Or drop 200 dollars on some scotch you can't even properly enjoy yet.

You seriously have no experience drinking at all? By 21 I had run the gamut of conventional liquors and had tried a variety of beers. I had decided Guinness was God-tier and to this day I still believe this with conviction.

Guiness is okay, having had more brutal stouts it kinda tastes creamy to slightly watery to me.

I recommend Kraken dark rum. Only dark rum I actually enjoyed drinking.

If you like licorice, get absinthe. It'll fuck you up.

>> No.4990766

>>4990760
I am still trying to finish a bottle of Pernod that I bought months ago. The Kraken is good shit but I don't go in for rum really, too sweet. Had absinthe once and it tasted vaguely like Listerine but it definitely put me on my ass.

>> No.4990769

If you're looking for beers, I would suggest Koenig Ludwig Weissbier and Spaten for good German beers. Those are my top two. Following those are, surprisingly, Newcastle Brown Ale and Boddington's Pub Ale. They're lowish tier, but damned good, and definitely above shit like Bud and Miller.

If you haven't tried something, buy some middle-of-the-road brand. Don't dish out a hundred bucks on something higher-end just to find out you do't like it. But cheap stuff can give the wrong impression (this happened with me and gin). So buy something right in the middle, preferably in the smallest quantity available.

Once you know what specific kinds of drinks you like, branch out. If you like dark beers, try different varieties. Aim to understand what makes a drink taste a certain way. Trial and error is always effective, but be sure to do a little research too.

Also, if you cook, pick up some red and white wines for cooking purposes (gotta make that risotto)

I bet you identify strongly with Irish heritage, don't you? My best buddy who's pure-bred Irish is obsessed with that shit. I have a lot of Irish blood but don't identify with it much, and find Guinness to be fucking nasty, and instead drink the beers from the heritage I identify with.

That would actually be an interesting thing to find out - how much one's self-image as far as nationality goes affects their taste in beer.

>> No.4990781

I feel like you typo'd in there somewhere. Like I said I like it fine, but it's far from being the best anything. It's decent, and this is coming from a guy who at one point drank nothing BUT Guinness as his beer of choice.

>>4990760
This is pretty accurate. Now that I've expanded my horizons a bit, Guinness tastes really watery and weak to me. I just tried imperial stouts recently, that shit is strong.

You could get drunk faster and cheaper off literally any hard liquor. I don't understand why people drink beer to get drunk, to make it even slightly cost effective you have to drink piss swill and if you drink better stuff you're wasting it once you get too drunk to tell the difference.

Go to a bar when it's not busy and strike up a conversation with the bartender. If they're any good, they'll have a recommendation or two for you. Just be prepared to buy two or three drinks(the more you buy, the more they're likely to let you sample more stuff) just to keep their attention and keep them talking.
A decent starter beer is probably a Belgian White or a Hefeweizen-style. Both tend to be light in body and a bit on the sweeter side. Chocolate bocks are popular, too, but I'm not a fan. They taste like, what else, chocolate, but are often very thick-bodied and dark. Not bad if you like it, but just be prepared to fill up on it.
Guldren Draak is a personal favorite, but it's VERY hoppy but with a sweet toffee flavor to offset the bitterness.
In all, it's all about experimenting and trying new things. And if you want liquor, don't buy handles or plastic jugs. That is garbage liquor fit only for plebeian-tier mixed drinks.

Am I late?

I got a bottle of 30 y.o. Highland Park for my birthday, and it is definitely the best whisky I've ever had so far.
Of course, the price tag stood to match, but it's fine for a special occasion.

Jack Daniels Single Barrel might also be a good starter - At least the bottle looks fancy, and the taste isn't too bad either. In the same price class you'll find Glenfiddich 12 y.o. and a number of other good spirits.

If you don't care much for the strong taste, get some Jim Beam Red Stag Black Cherry, it's stupid smooth and tastes like candy. If not that, try Jack Daniels with Coke for a mixed drink.

Another stable is rum and Coke. Captain Morgan Spiced Gold is fine, but consider using Bacardi Superior or Bacardi Oakheart instead - These also mix really well with Vanilla Coke.

I'd also recommend trying some sparkling wines. The taste isn't all that bad, they go great with food (or on their own), and they usually impress people (if you're into that). I'd recommend the Astoria Casa Vittorino. When buying it, avoid making an ass of yourself by saying it's champagne - It's not, it's prosecco.

And last, some tips: Drink at a bar to find out what you like, don't do like me and buy a bottle of everything - It's stupid, and most of all, it's expensive. Consider going to a bar to try things - The drinks cost more than when you make them at home, but at least you won't be stuck with a bottle you don't like, and can't give away either.

Cheers!
