March 2011, I'm in New York City with my 2 friends for the weekend, we're wandering around the city and I feel my stomach growl so I stop at a hotdog vendors cart and buy one (getting one was on my bucket list). I don't know what I was expecting but the vendor only haphazardly threw the bare essentials (ie ketchup and mustard ) on it. It was good but nothing special.

Anyway to make a long story short has anyone else have any underwhelming food based experiences like mine?

See, you made a mistake. Don't buy hotdogs from cart vendors, go down to Greys Papaya on the West Side of Manhattan for the best hotdog in NYC. The only things you should buy from carts are gyros from the Halal guys.

OP clearly had no idea what he was doing.

He was most likely taken for a child, and the vendor probably just suggested what children like on their hot dogs, then OP humbly agreed, out of fear of looking like he had no idea what he was doing (implying ordering a hot dog is rocket science), and started a thread complaining about it two years later on an anonymous image board.

So disappointed by dragonfruit. /ck/ had a boner for it a couple years ago so we bought one. Bland and seedy.
Went to Switzerland and tried authentic fondue. Wow, endless cheese and bread. Very fucking thrilling. Then we had a big plate of dried meats and stuff, it wasn't exciting but apparently it was like a regional dish.

This is literally the most reasonable response I've seen on /ck/, when it comes to shit like Chipotle.

>so disappointed by dragonfruit

It isn't bad, but isn't anything to write home about (even though I might have done so the first time I tried it. In my experience /ck/ has always been ambivalent about it. I grew up eating star fruit straight off the tree, and am nostalgia as fuck about it. Now, however, I'm willing to admit it is pretty mediocre, and I wouldn't actually pay for it in most stores.

>went to switzerland and tried authentic fondue

I fucking love good fondue, and have had it both in Switzerland and Eastern France. I love and miss it. Next time, however, you should try some authentic raclette. Similar idea; different application.

And where do you come from where you simply refer to it as "good Swiss cheese"?

>And where do you come from where you simply refer to it as "good Swiss cheese"?
I am from Quebec. Every grocery store has a large fondue section.

You do realize, "good Swiss cheese" denotes the nationality of cheese, not the generic "Swiss cheese" you are obviously well acquainted with, right?

Do you live in a flyover state? Is this why you can't find good cheese for fondue?

>a large fondue section
>using the term "swiss cheese"

As a 'murrican, I thought we were the only ones who used that term.

Having lived in France for a year or so, I think of "Swiss cheese" as "Emmental". In any case, "authentic fondue", as I know it, is a combination of at least three different cheeses: gruyère, emmental, and comté.

I know there are obviously variations, and variations within variations on the three cheeses I listed. Those are, however, the three cheeses that were included the handful of times I had what I would consider "authentic fondue".

What exactly were you referring to when you brought up "authentic Swiss Cheese"?

I've lived on both US coasts, aside from having spent time in Europe, but I really want to know why you would pull the "flyover state" card. I've spent time in middle America, and that is where the best US cheese comes from. You can get cheese curds better than Canada's best, and make god tier poutine in fucking Wisconsin. I'm not trying to defend where I live, or have lived; but based on my limited experience you clearly have no idea what you are talking about.

Call me a pleb but pretty much all the cliché "rich guy" food has been a disappointment to me when you consider the price and delicacy status. Frois gras, caviar, macaroons, even champagne.
