This food looks incredible. Chicken fingers breaded with pretzel crumbs? Holy fuck that looks delicious.

I sincerely think Guy Fieri is one of the best. He's taken American favorites and made them even better.

Guy knows people hate him, especially snobby chefs. He doesn't care. All he cares about is tasty food. He's one of the least pretentious restaurateurs ever.

1) His overpriced prices are what is dictated by expensive rent district NYC. It's ballpark among the competition.
2) It's all overdone, overspiced, overfusioned, overly fried or overly sweetened. To each his own, though. You eat where the menu agrees with you.
3) As a person, he's got the same issue as say a Bobby Flay or Emeril. He's the kid who was learned disabled, ADHD, hyperactive, dyslexic, undereducated. You see this wild fast-talking, lower class kind of imbecile peek through from time to time, no matter how much PR training and handlers tried to curb it. These guys just haven't had the time to return to college and complete a few lessons in grammar, culture and things we equate with class or intelligence, as a society.
4) He does seem like a nice guy, most of the time, but if you watch enough Diners, Dives...you'll see it slip out occasionally that he mocks some of the people he puts on camera. When someone is doing grandpas secret recipe and it includes a quart of onion powder, or untoasted roll, he'll immediately demote a much loved local joint into a joke in his judgement. Sure he'll eyeroll and off the hook on final tasting, but his face and random comments says it all.
The reason we like an Anthony Bourdain vs some other guy is his ability not to put his foot in his mouth. We recognize it as him simply being more intelligent, and not just editing.

Funny. Look at the prices of his Times Square abomination, then check out the reviews. Then tell me he isn't fucking pretentious.

The very worst kind of restaurant is the one that sells crappy food to rich people for outrageous prices because it's understood that rich people don't give a fuck as long as they're eating in the company of other rich people.

Fieri's career is based on the conceit of letting a rich guy feel like an everyman buy eating his crap. I have easy access to that flavor palette, and I'm not a fan. Also I'm not rich enough to see it as a novelty.

Yeah, Guy is kind of obnoxious, I can see why people hate him, but he's pretty honest about other people's food and its not like that show is entirely about him: he's more of an eccentric place filler to get you excited to see other peoples cooking. The show is about the locations and the cool stuff people have come up with on menus, and for me at least it's helped me learn how to make some of the more abstract stuff, like bolognase sauce, pasta, mexican dishes, soups, etc.

I hear he endorses good knives on the cheap too.
