hey /ck/ im very new to wine and i want to buy my boss something for Christmas this year. I have no idea what he likes and a doubt that any of my co worker will have the slightest idea. Im also going to be putting together a basket with some of my baked goods in it so the wine is kind of just the "cherry on top" im willing to spend up to $40. Is there a good "go to" wine or is that very personal?

it's unlikely you'll choose anything he truly likes in that case but I can try to help you not pick something completely wrong.

how old is he, where do you live, where is he from, and what kind of restaurants does he go to, specifically?

>buying gifts for your boss

I'm giving my boss a smile when she gives me my bonus check.

hes in his late 40's - early 50's we live in southern Ontario more specificity in the Niagara region, there are quite a few vineyards here. I don't know where he is from but i do know that he occasionally vacations in Italy. when it comes to restaurants he just picks anything that isn't cheap fast food.

maybe an italian Malbec? i heard those have fair prices, or another italian wine ofc, let me check the names of wine and i´ll give you some suggestions

OK stay away from Italian wines in that case. if you're giving baked sweets you could try a local dessert wine. or a dessert wine from elsewhere. a coteaux du layon or a tokaj or a beernauslese Riesling. anything he's less likely to drink regularly but not because of any personal dislike is probably safe.
