What are the most expensive things in your kitchen arsenal?

>cast iron is cheap as shit
>large pots and saucepans don't really need to hold heat, so they can be thinner and cheaper
>buying ridiculously expensive tools like garlic press' and the like is silly because they all do the same thing

the only thing I can think of that deserves splashing out on is a good all purpose knife, besides I only have one chef knife and one cheapish paring knife. My entire kitchen is otherwise full of pretty cheap stuff and it all works fine. I do have a $150 stainless steel frying pan, but that was a freebie and I only use it for tomato based meals anyway.

Most of the most expensive things in my kitchen I inherited, like some fine 60-year-old stainless and a Kitchen-Aid mixer from the 70s.
The most expensive single thing I bought myself might be my $35 bamboo cutting board.

The most expensive single item is probably my staub french oven. You could also count my edgepro set, even though it's really multiple pieces, but pretty much every other piece of equipment I have was under $200.

Hrm.
My cast iron set was $190USD. There's a stew pot with lid, a stock pot with lid, an ovular dutch oven with lid, a skillet and a grill pan. It's Ginuwine Le Creuset. And with the metal knobs (rather than the plastic ones). I found the still new-in-box, never used set in a discount store. It was either Ross or Marshall's, not sure which.
The same set from Le Creuset themselves would cost over $400, so I got it less than half price. Hurray for me!
Other than that and large appliances (fridge etc), likely my cleaver. $80, made locally by a guy with too much time on his hands.

Probably my Le Creuset french oven. It's worth like 300$+ and it was just given to me when I moved to my first apartment. Definitely the most useful thing I have in my kitchen apart from my knives.

How does the bottom of it look? Apparently, they change color and start to look brown after cooking with it for awhile.

Yeah, it does darken a bit, but it doesn't change its performance whatsoever. I even bake cakes in it sometimes and it's fine.

i got me some saffron (from india, so it was cheaper than usual)
I got some wagyu steaks (but they were free)
I got a box of Godiva chocolates (heavily discounted)
and it was at this point that I realised that you are not talking about consumables
I bought a 5 piece pot set (Raco) for about $200 5 years ago, still goin strong. they are ovenproof which is handy

I have this set of pots and pans, I think it cost me around $500 but it should last me a lifetime.
I also have enameled cast iron dutch oven and a few nice knives.
