it has something to do with giving to the poor i think, back in the day you would collect leftovers, money (depends how generous the lords and ladies were) etc and present it to your servants and tradesmen in a box the day after Christmas.

And i don't know why its a holiday, but i also don't know why you celebrate thanks giving. What was given and whose thankful for it??

Thanksgiving celebrates when the first colonists had finally made it through a year without starving to death (which apparently happened a lot) and had just gathered their first real harvest that would save them from starving in the winter. And supposedly natives were invited because they had shown the settlers the right crops to grow that would actually thrive and produce food. Basically, it's a holiday centered around eating a lot of food in celebration of the fact that you won't be starving. ('Murrica, fuck yeah!)

thanksgiving is a harvest festival celebrated in the fall and is commonly first attributed to the early pilgrims who celebrated a good harvest (meaning they won't starve) with a big day of feasting and "giving thanks" to the lord.

Oh, well...that sound pretty shitty I liked the idea of everyone actually boxing each other that would be a bad-ass holiday.

The origin of the tradition is that churches (and other places) would open their alms boxes and distribute gifts to the poor, but the term 'boxing day' is a recent thing, with the first usage thought to be in the 1840s.

Now it's a day with most of the good things from Christmas Day, but without gift-giving. I hear that the festivities of Christmas Day effectively end shortly after noon in the US, with people going back to work, and heavy drinking on that day is unheard of. Is that true?

As the person who typed that ('Murrica, fuck yeah!) I think it's important to note here (for these people who don't understand, obviously) that that phrase is used in a mocking way by Americans to make fun of ourselves. It's not a declaration of superiority or a fucking battle cry, it's used to make fun of our moments of absurdity and ridiculousness, like a holiday that's all about eating a lot of food. It originated from the theme of "Team America: World Police" a movie featuring marionettes made by the creators of South Park.

Technically, you are correct though. All of the flags would now be white thanks to all dat UV exposure.
