Hey /ck/
I'm about to get a job at Hometown Buffet as a dishwasher while I study for this Stationary Engineer test.

Anyone here work at Hometown before? I've been there a few months ago, and the food wasn't that great, but as long as they'll pay, I'll do it.

Anyone know what I'm in for?

Dishwashing sucks, I'm sorry.
Are you Mexican? I'd rather be a busser.

Well, I'm not expecting it to be good, but I NEED a job, and this is really the only thing that's been open to me.

>> No.4854789

Presumably would be a low stress job since you don't have to deal with customers.

Prepare your anus.

Expect piles of dishes as far as the eye can see.
Plates that have been sitting there for hours, turning into cement because the lazy fucking servers never pre-bus thier tables
Burnt shit from the kitchen.
Slippery floors.
Broken glass.
I hope you're not squeamish, because you'll be putting your hands into the stickest, nastiest shit ever.
You're going to get wet, dirty, sticky, tired, burnt, your back will ache and your feet will be killing you.
Also, at some point in your job, you're going to slip and fall on your ass as everyone stares at you.

I never understood why those places don't use dishwashing machines. They save time, tons of money in the long run, and water. I've only known one place to actually have dishwashing machines. They had 3 and they only needed to use 2 most of the time and 3 when there was a rush.

I worked one day as a dishwasher once at a buffet place. One day. I had nightmares for a week after that where I couldn't wash the dishes fast enough and they piled up, fell over on me, and crushed me.

Good luck, anon.

try to work in the morning. One of my first jobs was at Old Country Buffet and it was horrible, but I needed the job. The mornings are the best time to work. Why? Because cleaning up at night SUCKS!! Prepare to get soaking wet every time you work and if you can afford it get two pairs of shoes (so one can dry if you work two days in a row).

Other than that don't take any one's shit and learn the rules of the dish room. ie; who does what, rotation of stations, who is responsible for what...etc.
Good luck and try to be some where else in your head when you're there.

It's a job bro. I work at a restaurant as a cook, but a few times for various reasons I've stepped in and washed dishes.

Wear clothes you don't care about

You will smell like death and rotten food when you get off work, don't make any social plans until a change of clothes and a shower.

Befriend the people in the kitchen, and especially the Mexicans. They will show you how to get shit done quickly and with the least bullshit.

Good luck and be open to moving up, warming up gravy and making some instant mashed potatoes is probably more fun and less dirty.

Judging by /ck/s usual pretention and overexagerration in all threads and about anything i would say it isnt nearly as bad as theyre making it.. dont sweat it, all your doing is 1 basic task.. fucking simple. Ive had all kinds of minimum wage jobs.. they arent hard, its hard work, but its simple.. and because its so simple it isnt difficult to work hard like that. Shits only difficult if you arent committed. And whats harder is when you dont get along with others.. minimum wage work isnt crisis shit like getting in an accident, its simple, hard work. These people are probably pussies.
