How do you get a job cooking in a restaurant ? Start out as a dishwasher? I always ads for places looking for line cooks, but I guess there's no real way to prove you know how to cook?

i mean if you dont have experience working in a restaurant. You cant just say "yeah I cook at home all the time. Im a great cook"

You should be able to start straightaway as a prep cook. If not for some strange reason, like maybe you suck at interviews or something, I suppose you could use a year of working at a subway or jimmy johns or something to demonstrate basic food handling skills.

just say you wanna cook for them and you'll do it for free if necessary

if you're good you'll get a job soon enough
