He has stated before that on such shows as Iron Chef and other shows that Food Network wants him to be the "jerk" type like Simon Cowel or Gordon Ramsey He is literally acting and playing up that part because his bosses want him to. Good Eats is how he normally acts in everyday life. Seriously, if you like him, don't be an asshat with those insults and educate yourself.

You might be right. It's still no reason to hate Alton Brown. I've never seen him say "okay you've seen this, now you're a master cook, go and act like it." I dig the guy, he puts a lot of fairly complex things, and boils it down to something that's digestible for the average layperson. Of course he's not going to nail it on the head every time - the homebrewing episode is a fair example - and there are going to be some people that think that they know everything about cooking because of good eats and such, but I still dig him and still dig the show.
