Shakerato con latte. I usually have it this way.
My black American neighbours saw me out on my back veranda this morning and asked "Wassat you drinkin'?" as they looked at my glass.
Me: "Italian iced coffee."
Neighbour: "Oh, you fancy, huh?"
Both of us: lulz
Me: "No, just foreign."

What is there to "perfect" in the operation of a French Press?

Isn't it just
>measure coffee
>grind coffee
>add ground coffee
>add just-below-boiling water
>set timer
>wait
>pour off
?

I just hadn't had the French press very long and it was just figuring out the x time to x time combination. I guess I liked my Moka until I started playing around with the French Press more. I had the Moka for years but just preferred the French press when I realized it made a better cup of coffee. I still take the Moka when I go camping.

>pour boiling water over ground up roasted seeds and let it sit, then strain it
or
>measure water, place fine-ground coffee in place, tightly screw on the reservoir and brew over gentle flame until the water pressure builds up enough to push water upward through the grounds where coffee streams forth into deliciousness
Which sounds less complex and more retarded?

Either way, why do Americans call it a "french press?"
It's not French. It's an Italian/Hungarian invention (in the early 1900s, Hungarian-Italians were at the forefront of coffee innovations, such as Kelemen Attila, inventor of the press pot, and Illy Ferenc, inventor of espresso). I've tried looking up where the addition of "french" came from but to no avail.

Natives did not generally mash potatoes. They roasted them whole over open flame.

An exception to this is in Peru and its neighbouring nations where native Quechuas/Kichwas Runakunas, and Ingas/Incas ate (and still eat) a dish similar to poi composed of peeled, fine-minced, boiled and fermented mash of potato and/or sweet potato the name of which escapes me currently.

This is good advice, especially for the "perfect" french press. I'd also suggest using a lighter roast bean, since they're better for brewing at lower temperatures. The opposite is true, in that darker roasts are for things like espresso.

Also experiment with brew times, roasts, bean strains, grinding methods, etc., since you'll be the one drinking it and ultimately liking or disliking the result.

I'm not a scientific expert but I feel I brew french press to a very high standard. Your steps are correct but I think the artistry in it is gauging when to press. I like to think there is a window between 3:30 and 4:10, and each different type of bean tastes best at a certain time within that window. The fun thing is that it's down to your subjective tastes so you can think of yourself as the litmus and through minimal trial and error find what works best for you.

I recommend this video as a very good starter:

I figured this would be the right place to ask...

How do I make GOOD coffee? I tried Tim Hortons and Starbucks but it was meh at best even with cream/sugar, then I bought some maxwell house instant shit and it turned out even worse.

There are so many coffee makers and brands that I'm not sure what to choose. Money isn't really an issue, but I don't want to spend too much and find out it barely tastes better than store-bought stuff,

Trying to turn starbucks into good coffee is like trying to turn a heap of excrement into a michelin-grade gourmet meal.

If you don't have a good local roaster order online. Sweet maria's, paradise, intelligentsia, etc. You don't need anything fancy, just a melitta cone is sufficient for great coffee. Worry about the beans, use good water, and you're 95% of the way there.
