Tradition. It all stems from the fact that rye can stand cold - especially the "unexpected night of below zero 2 weeks after planting that kills every single seed north of Åland" - that we frequently find here. We have an affinity for it because the other option would be being extinct.

Other than that, it is pretty tasty. There's two good varieties of rye bread, the first being the freshly baked one, that has an earthly, deep flavour yet the softness of a wheat bread, and the other being the dry slow-baked bread that you can club a burglar to death with, that comes in the familiar doughnut shape, and which tastes as bitter as the tears of our ancestors as they look down upon our soft and weak modern shapes. FROM HELL.

Makes sense. I think if you eat the hard, bitter kind, a person can get a very good impression of the Finnish people.
Plus, for whatever reason, you guys eat that shit like there's a shortage of it or something. Too bad Mammi hasn't caught on in the international market.
>>4730066
Swedish rye bread is sweeter as is German rye bread which is also oiler. Ruis bread is pretty dry, hard and bitter.

>> No.4730113

>Ruis bread is pretty dry, hard and bitter
Bitter I don't know where to hell you are getting, like fuck you must have had some SERIOUSLY shitty rye bread. It gets dry if you don't eat it fresh yeah, but good rye bread only gets better after it dries a bit, it becomes godly. The crust is bit hard and especially so if you let it dry too much, but I like the 'hardiness' of the bread, the edge of the round, donut-esque rye bread is pretty much my favorite part.
But then again I have the privilege of living somewhere where I can get 2 of probably the best rye breads in the world so it's easy to say these things. I believe they both have won some awards too.
I like the Swedish variant every now and then but I'd choose the Finnish kind every day of the week.

Kyllä se jälkkäri kitkerältä maistaa. Tai ainakin täällä Kymenlaaksossa, perinteen mukkaan.

For the dryness, hardness and bitterness of Finnish rye bread, the reason is that it was dried intentionally with long baking times. After this, it was hung on poles suspended from the roof for further air-drying. Simply for preservational reasons - the Finnish winter is a long one, and this method allowed for yet another food to be available in the dark long nights.

It looks kinda like a mustard of some sort, but I couldn't tell if it'd be sweet or savory. Like a honey mustard or a brown dijon mustard. Says it goes well with both fries and burgers.

I'm guessing it's kinda a "special sauce" akin to the ketchup/mayo mixture in the USA. Like a Thousand Island or Russain Dressing?

It seems to me (I haven't tried it) that it is what is called here in Chile an 'italiano', ie., mayo, tomato, avocado.

Here's a recipe I just tracked down. I'm going to make some of this at the restaurant I work at and try to convince the people that ask for fry sauce (I have the servers give them a side of mayo and a bottle of ketchup and they can make it themselves) to switch to it. It'll be a hard sell though, I think.

Ingredients
1 medium onion, chopped
1 large gherkin, chopped
2 medium egg yolks
1 tsp mustard
1 tsp curry powder
2 tsp sugar
1 tbsp white wine vinegar
1 tbsp ketchup
1 dash(es) Worcester sauce
150 ml oil
portions
Method

Preparation time: ca. 10 min / Grade of difficulty: easy / Calories per portion: n/a
In a blender combine onion, gherkin, egg yolks, mustard, curry powder, sugar, vinegar and the ketchup and process until smooth. Add the oil drop by drop first, then in a thin stream. Process until the sauce is creamy. Season to taste with Worcester sauce.

Goes well with vegetables, chips, fish, rissoles and sandwiches.

The second one is a bit clearer about the ingredients, 'kroketten' and 'bitterballen' are basically the same.

As a Dutchman myself, I like them both, with some mayonnaise or mustard. But the Mckroket is horrible indeed. Amerifag in China, here. Apart from the disturbing black and white burger promotion, a few menu items with rice, and bubble milk tea on the drink menu, it's pretty much your standard American McOptions. The only real difference with the menu is they don't have the numbering system on combo items.

you trust the egyptian health department when egypt can't even build decent roads? you think they inspect mcdonalds any harder than they do those shawarma carts, when the entire country runs on graft and favors for the rich?

if there is any place you're going to get food poisoning in egypt, it's at a fast food joint. Shawarma cart guy has to market his food to his friends and neighbors, and goes out of business if he poisons one of them. McDonalds counts on business from retarded americlap tourists like you who are already on a flight home by the time the explosive diarrhea strikes.

Guide to the McDonald's Value Menu in Murrica:

>stay away from McChicken, the meat is very cheap and chewy, if you want something similar get a snackwrap with mayonnaise, the chicken strips they use are way better

>Never buy a Double Cheeseburger, a McDouble is cheaper, if you need the extra piece of cheese then you shouldn't be eating shit from McD's

>putting french fries in your McDouble can simulate a middle bun of a Big Mac

>snackwraps>premium wraps. they put shitty romaine in premium and it's way more expensive

>mcrib is gross unless you are stoned. for all those that have never tried it, it's not that great

>when ordering sandwiches they pre-prepare, ask for extra something, or no-something, do they make it fresh

>if you want yoyr $-worth on a drink, ask for light or no ice

>> No.4746342

My theory is that they deliberately decrease the syrup to water ratio, as well as the amount of CO2 being added at the fountain. This increases the amount of soda that can be dispensed per bib of syrup and per canister of CO2.

I mean I know the profit margin on Soda is insanely high, but when you're talking about a big corporate entity like McD's, a couple of extra cents a day saved across thousands of restaurants adds up.

As a result, most places serve soda that is watered down and a little bit flatter than how you get it when you buy it at the store.

When I was a kid the mcdonalds here in america had a triple. But it was a baseball promotion thing that was going on. Single, double, triple, home run (4). One time I begged and mom let me have a triple.

Funny mcdonalds story my mom used to always remind me / tell everyone about, every saturday afternoon I would go shopping with mom. If I was good I'd get a happy meal. One day sitting in the car waiting in line at the drive through, I turned to her and said "Mom, I think I'm too old for a happy meal, I want a real burger!", she'd always tear up when telling it.

Miss you mom.

It's this. Soda fountains allow you to adjust the ratio of water to syrup. I used to work at a restaurant that went with about as much coke syrup as you'd allow, it was amazing.

McDonalds policy is to crank that shit up and give it to you extra-sweet.
