6:30 PM Lunch: Leftovers. My office goes from gloating to envious every time. I usually would rather Wendy's, but these people haven't seen home-cooked food since they moved out of their parent's house.

10PM Same of lunch or some other likely home-cooked meal.

Here we call the meal eaten at midday "dinner". Lunches are what schoolchildren eat.

Of course, we still have fancy dinners on an evening, as in "going out to dinner". It's complicated.

This is actually what led me to make this thread.

Interesting, I've never heard that before. Where are you from, if you don't mind me asking? I'm Canadian.

Wikipedia has a section on this:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dinner#Which_meal_is_it.3F
>In parts of the rural American South and northern England, the word "dinner" traditionally has been used for the midday meal even if it was a light snack taken to school or work (and not for supper). The (lighter) meal following dinner has traditionally been referred to as "supper" or tea, though middle- and northern- English people still often refer to a large evening meal as tea, with "dinner" being reserved for the noontime meal.

I haven't called my meals names in a few years because my eating pattern is so unstructured. I might have a salad at any time of day, or bread and cheese. Meals that take a while to prepare naturally get eaten later in the day. I rarely have traditional breakfast food except porridge and cereal, and I'll eat them any time of day as well. I eat every 3-6 hours starting 4-5 hours after I wake up.

even when I'm with someone else I won't say "let's have dinner" I'll say "are you hungry? We should eat." and then we decide what we feel like eating. Many restaurants serve their full menu all day and that's how I like it.

I never eat at the same time everyday. When I get up I have some fruit or even a cookie if I want. Lunch is boring so I skip it and dinner is whenever I'm hungry for it. It was 9:30pm today. How can you guys be so weird about planning what time to eat?
