Does it count as a vegetable?
Favorite brand/recipes
What else besides tortilla chips is it good with?

>> No.4670820

I'll sometimes get those yellow stone tortilla chips you get at Costco or bjs, and then I get organic salsa, or tostitos

>> No.4670840

pita chips are bomb with them. I also like them on mediocre burgers that aren't good on their own. it's superior ketchup

>> No.4670846

Sure, it's made from nothing but veggies.

Recipes:
For the chips, buy corn tortillas. Cut into triangles. Deep fry them until crispy.

For salsa there's a zillion variations and you can make it as complex or as simple as you like, but here's a really simple one that would resemble the generic tex-mex style like in OP photo:
1 large can of peeled tomatoes
3-4 cloves garlic, peeled
3-4 jalapenos, fresh or from a can (adjust quantity if you want it hotter or milder)
a few sprigs of cilantro (aka coriander)
1 tb cumin
pinch of salt
half an onion

Put everything except the tomatoes and the onion into a food processor or blender. Open the can of tomatoes and pour out the liquid into the food processor. Blend it up good. Now dump in the tomatoes and the onion and pulse it a little to get the texture you want. Pulse it just a little if you like it chunky; process it more if you want it smoother.

roasted tomatillo salsa is god tier:

~2 lbs tomatillos (wash and roast in the oven at 375F)
1 medium red onion
2-4 garlic cloves (to taste)
2-4 chilis (serrano, jalapeno, poblano, de arbol...whatever floats your boat)
~1/8 tsp cumin
~1/8 tsp mexican oregano
salt to taste (usually around 1/2 tsp or so)

blend it all up in a food processor and you've got some damn good salsa

>> No.4670943

Do you guys live in an area that sells these? These are the best goddamn corn chips I've ever eaten in my life

Ever since I moved to the west coast I've had the most amazing homemade salas, on the 4th three different people brought homemade salsa and guac to the fucking party, I'm coming a little bit just thinking about it.

I'm not sure I am going to eat jarred salsa again on this earth

Also yes it counts as a vegetable motherfucker, that shit ain't nothing but vegetables

I made some the other day to spread on my burritos.

big can of fire roasted tomatoes, drain some water away
small-ish/medium can of green chiles
half/most of an onion, whatever
salt/pepper
handful or so of cilantro at the end
a good spoonful of adobo sauce, this is the key
decent spoonful of brown sugar to even out the acid
don't remember if I put in any sprinkles of oregano or thyme in this time. I might have added green onion too, I had some

Anyway boil that up until some of the water goes away and then process it. It's pretty much how I do my italian sauces too except I use capers instead of peppers, and omit the onion/cilantro. Made a real good burrito sauce, and chips too if I had any.

>> No.4672686

no, it's a fruit if anything.

I've gotten in the habit of making a quick salsa from a can of Rotel tomatoes with jalapenos. I just drain it, then add some fresh lime juice, and some chopped up red onion and cilantro.

I still have a soft spot in my heart for the Tostitos hot salsa though. Favorite stoner food EVER. Many many many many nights with a bag of weed, and bag of Tostitos scoops and a couple jars of their salsa, and I was all set for the evening.

Not even gonna lie, the cheap ass Great Value Walmart brand of salsa and Nacho Cheese Doritos are my cheap night time snack

>> No.4674968

I put extra hot chunky Pace salsa on breaded fish. Gorton's potato chip breaded fish, the kind that come in bags of 14. Also good on anything that you would or could normally serve with ketchup. There's no two ways about it, salsa is very versatile and just plain awesome.
