Five Guys actually makes good burgers.
Subway actually makes shit subs, but lots of local places will throw a good one together in a minute.
It's mostly a problem when fast food places try to squeeze out that extra minute, and end up with burger patties in steam tables or similar bullshit. Also, of course trying to make it too cheap so they can't use good ingredients.

In the South, people consider Chick-fil-a with cult-like adulation. I should know, I live in a town currently hopelessly hexed by the place.
My opinion? It's okay at times, but how could anyway shell out that much money all the time for chicken that I could cook better at home and that other places do right? I mean, it's good, but I never, ever get a craving for it.
And don't even get me started on the breakfast. The most crumbly, small as fuck, dry-as-mummy-pussy ass biscuit is paired with unnaturally sweet basically fossilized chicken that they have the audacity to call "spicy" and charge extra for, sea grape soggy hashbrowns, and a sweet tea, for five fucking dollars? The only good breakfast item they have are those fucking chicken minis and they're barely worth the cost.

I will admit though, their shakes are bangin.
But their extreme hype is so baseless and every time I go there I am reminded of the conservative rich soccer moms and their unholy litter of children, the church groups, and the other undesirables that call that place their haunt, with lips glossed with Chick-fil-a or Polynesian sauce, and shudder, a shudder that can only be quieted by a waffle fry or a sip of shake.
Once I had the misfortune of walking into a Chick-fil-a in Mississippi at the height of the lunch rush. Never again. Never, ever, again.

In-&-Out is the closest I've come to a home cooked burger from a fast food joint; but I still prefer Whataburger one a fair share of days. For one thing the fries could still use a little work at In-&-Out, but if you get them animal style then that makes up for anything regarding them.
