Murrican here (Texas-born, living in Arizona). Carrots are actually popular in that setting, so I thought the same thing. My take on the food posted thus far:

>>4547304
>Green Bean Casserole
It's green beans, cream of mushroom soup, and french fried onions for the most part. It tastes better than it looks, but not by much. Never seen one with this much onion on top.

>>4547308
>Deep Dish "Pizza"
Only time I had one this thick, a friend working at a pizzeria made it special and brought it home. We all dug in with forks. I'm not from Chicago, so I don't know how deep they typically get, but I've personally never seen one this thick for sale.

>>4547310
>Corn and chicken
Sounds more Mexican than Murrican to me. Looks pretty gross, and I've never seen it here.

>>4547314
>Dagwood sandwich
I've seen a 1 lb burger about 75% as tall as this sandwich, but never seen cold cuts so arranged. I doubt this is really a common thing - probably less common in the US than fried ice cream.

>>4547315
>Cheeto bowl
That's just weird. Like I said, I thought it was carrots, and in that setting, carrots (along with celery and other crunch healthy foodstuffs) would normally dominate that little hotel banquet. I've stayed at a lot of Super 8s - never once seen something like this. Looks more like a setup you'd see at some kid's sixth birthday party.

>>4547322
>Sliders
I don't see how people could hate on these, as it's just a small burger. I liked Jack in the Box's sliders, but they only sold them for a few months :(

>>4547324
>another Dagwood
Clearly someone fucking about at home or in a similar informal setting. This is *not* an everyday thing, people!

>>4547326
>Fruit salad
Never once ever saw *that* much mayo in a fruit salad. That's just a parody of the dish, seriously. Nothing wrong with grapes, cherries, oranges, banana, apple, pineapple, etc and just enough mayo to coat the fruit.

cont...

>> No.4547430

...cont

>>4547330
>queso
Not chili con queso, which is chili (typically con carne) topped with a bit of shredded cheese. This is just cheese and peppers and perhaps a bit of meat used as a dipping sauce for nachos. It's (almost) never eaten straight.

>>4547380
>Sloppy joes
Not sloppy joes. Sloppy joes are saucy beef mix on bread, maybe *maybe* with a bit of cheese. No one I know would ever put that much cheese on a sloppy joe. No one in my family ever put any cheese on a sloppy joe.

Tl;dr: Most of these aren't as bad as they look, and the ones that are look to be obviously exaggerated to put Americans in the worst possible light. Postin' in a troll thread.

Disheartening as it is that we're losing so much of our edible heritage to packaged foods, it's not all Big Macs and Hot Pockets. For example, Southern food gets a lot of flack thanks to Paula Deen sensationalizing what were supposed to be special occasion dishes, but traditional Southern cuisine is full of vegetables.

People forget that America was largely a agricultural society until fairly recently and our traditional foods reflect this.

Gumbo doesn't photograph well, but fuck it. It's delicious.

Holy jesus fuck, what the hell and who the hell is making these abominations of Ambrosia salad? Or, as my family called it, 24 Hour Salad.
It's made (properly) by making a custard that includes a hint of vinegar, making it tangy. (much like yogurt would, I suppose, but better), and then you let the fruit marinate in the custard overnight. Before serving, you add some freshly whipped heavy cream. Just enough to make it fluffy and creamy, not a disgusting amount. Fruit should be fresh, pitted, cherries, fresh pineapple, mandarin oranges, halved, seedless grapes, and (optionally) chopped toasted nuts. Some people don't like nuts in it, that's a personal call.

Have a garbage plate.

You have a choice of home fries, fries, or hash browns as your base. Then they add your choice of hamburger, sausage, fish, or eggs on top of that. Then to top it off you can ask for shredded cheese, 'hot sauce' (spiced meat), mustard, onions, or bacon. It's served with baked beans or macaroni salad. America truly is an enigma.
1 out of 4 children live without knowing where their next meal comes from, while obesity skyrockets for the rest. We call ourselves foodies, but are addicted to processed foods. We are obsessed with health and would do anything except change what we eat to get healthier.

We have no choice in the matter. HFCS is in everything, our "produce" is frankenfood, livestock is filled with antibiotics, and you practically have to grow all your own food to eat a good diet.

>> No.4553078

There is absolutely nothing different with livestock raised on antibiotics as far as the food goes

Its a bad idea because it may well lead to more resistant bacteria strains, but it has absolutely no relevance to your diet

How about you just not stuff your face every second? You can be healthy eating processed foods, just cut back consumption and do something besides sitting all day.

I couldn't agree more. Ever seen that picture of American and South Korean soldiers with the North Korean soldier at the DMZ? Science is why we're so healthy and you only have to look at places like North Korea to understand why we need science.

People who spread fear and lies about science are the gravest threat humanity has ever faced. These militant vegans, hippies, and shrill propagandists (who are mostly leftists, unsurprisingly) are literally advocating the extinction of the human race.

No one argues that. People argue that the average American eats like shit, and since this is an anonymous board, you're representative of the average.

Therefore, you eat like shit and don't value food.

You do realize the S. Korea has banned import of American wheat because there is a super teeny tiny chance that there MIGHT be GMO strains mixed in, right?

Europe and Asia in general are very much against GMO and thus Monsanto. Monsanto also chooses to indulge in abusive business practices that hurt farmers and reduce the variety of foods available to consumers.

Further, there are enough studies showing roundup ready crops cause serious disease to cause an uproar in those countries. There is no reason not to conduct further study of the subject, preferably before we hit three generations worth of exposure (which some studies suggested was the amount of exposure required to completely sterilize the entire population).

America's food is in a tough spot simply because the country is so young, and so full of influences from abroad and from the mass-market, cheapest shit possible from marketing pushers like on "Mad Men". It's a clusterfuck really, one where laziness and low-dollar almost always trumps good cooking. Even so there's definitely a good variety of regional foods especially down South. And "American" cuisine is really whatever you want. Who really would snub their nose at a good Chinese/Thai/Vietnamese/what the fuck ever buffet? Or a take-out burger joint which leaves you senseless? Or some good old-fashioned Tex-Mex, or that little place which happens to be the only good philly cheesesteak in a 200 mile radius? The cultural American food is showcased in diners and dives that range from shit to salvation. I fucking love my local "Thai China Buffet". And fuck the competing "China Cafe". They have no idea what they're doing.

This is the free market. You either do it yourself and practice, or hire out to a contract crew that gets it done quick, or consult with a true master of the craft. And then you reap the fruits of your decision. And live with the risk of dissatisfaction and/or diarrhea.

Monsanto is not GMO in general. Nonetheless their shitty deals are much more relevant to farmers that have to buy into their system than to consumers that buy the corn or soy or whatever. And they're already big enough to strongarm the Justice Department into dropping antitrust lawsuits, so I dunno what the fuck you expect the thoroughly lobbied Congress or executive branch to do instead. Maybe you should resort to TERRISM to impede their business.
