can we get a pizza thread going? i want to make some tonight, but i need help as i'm not so experienced.

so what toppings does everyone like?
is jarred sauce sufficient or is sauce from scratch worth the effort?
the bakery at publix makes dough that's fairly decent (balls of dough, not like boboli) and i think that's the way i'm going because i'm a total pleb. but feel free to give me reasons to make dough.

and finally, anybody have a great technique for making pizza at home? i was thinking of using my large cast iron skillet to my crust isnt undercooked bullshit.

Scratch sauce is worth it. Roast tomatoes, remove skin and de-seed. Mash and add typical italian seasonings.
Buy some dough since you have to make it tonight.
Pepperoni and jalapeno. I like tomatoes too but some folks are like "hurr durr there's already tomato sauce"

And use the grill. It's the only thing you have that will get hot enough.

canned tomatoes vs fresh tomatoes?

and i think tomatoes are pretty good on pizza, although i can see how the tomato flavor between sauce and topping could get to be a bit much.

forgot to pose the question about cheese in the OP. i assume fresh mozzarella is ideal here?

unfortunately, i only have access to a regular stove, so i can only get to about 500F. i would gladly use a grill if i had one (goddamn apartments)

Fresh mang. To both questions.

Go get a pizza stone then and make sure she's hot as fuck when you put that pizza on. Twenty dolla make you holla.

noted on the pizza stone, but i doubt it'll be in use tonight, since i doubt my grocery store carries them. but you never know.

and fresh it is, tomatoes are cheap as fuck anyway.

Si senor. And honestly, you can use a some non-glazed tile from the hardware store. Same thing without the name brand.
