Bubble tea, anyone? In Singapore, white melon milk tea with white pearls from Gong Cha for me.

That looks crappier than the Taiwanese version.

>Gong cha?

Anyways, I usually get red bean (milk tea I think) with the normal tapioca balls, I remember the first time I got bubble tea though, I wanted to be edgy, so while everyone was ordering peach or strawberry, I got lychee.
Shit tasted like pine sol

>> No.4435455

Yeah, lychee is kind of a shit-tier flavor. The fruit itself is fine, just.... as a flavor, no.

It's actually one of my favorite flavors now, but there's only 2 or 3 places in my city to get good bubble tea, so if they don't have red bean, lychee is my go-to choice.
Not sure why it tasted like shit the first time though, must've been because it was my first time tasting it.

Gong cha is a bubble tea place in Singapore. They don't use milk from a carton but yeah. Gong Cha is definitely better than KOI in Singapore.

Have you tried just the melon tea, OP? No milk. Just melon tea and white pearls.

There is always an anomalously high representation of Singaporeans (read: more than one) on this boards, I swear.

Bubble tea is shit. In Singapore especially. They're for giggly schoolgirls to have with their bff that they're gonna betray the next week. That, or the faggots Singapore passes off as boys who drink it because the schoolgirls drink it. Drinking bubble tea is an acknowledgement that you're plebian scum and susceptible to herd mentality and you should go die in a fire.

Why is it bad in Singapore? My dad lived in Singapore for a while, so I'd visit somewhat often and the boba was always shit. Other than being exceedingly sweet, it was bland. It was mildly flavoured sugar-water.

It's so flavourful in other countries, Philippines, Taiwan and Thailand especially. In the US, it's hit or miss. I've not had it in any other country besides those I've listed above. Everything else about Singapore's food and drink is fantastic, but the bubble tea is just... awful.

the problem here is quality control, and the fact that the craze has/is dying down again. quick history lesson- first craze was back in the early '00 period. (correct me if im wrong) what happened was a few decent shops opened and suddenly every other block literally had a bubble tea place.ridiculously poor in terms of QC since its just was copying and everyone was drinking it for the sake of drinking it. then came the second wave of 'artisan' taiwanese tea where people had a semblance of a proper tea joint where they could choose sugar levels and whatever. initially it was decent bordering on nice, but then mass franchising came into play and it becomes shit again. worst part is that theyre serving shit thats only marginally better than it used to be the first time around, but theyre charging almost double the price

Those of you who find SG boble tea to be shit, should try different shops. There are still good shops around that make nice tea.
However, here in 'murka I found this nice shaved ice shop that made bubble tea, it was great. I tried several types and they did have that too sweat issue until I tried the Thai tea flavor. That was awesome. A mixture of cream and fruits the warm pearls really added a lot to the cold tea.
Unfortunately as soon as my friends and I started to frequent it, he sold it to the Mexicans who now do shaved ice and chicharones. The nearest place that sells it is a 20 minute drive and seems like a hipster Asian restaurant.
I'm not going to lie, I will try it. But that place gets one chance.

Guy who brought up the grass jelly thing. Pretty sure that stuff is more expensive than tapioca but I can't be fucked to look it up.

Also, why is everything a jew conspiracy to you guys? Businesses exist to make money, and the grass jelly stuff tastes bretty good. It's not to everyone's taste but there are lots of Asian desserts similar to it that involve grass jelly. So who the fuck cares if it's slightly incorrect because technically they are cube shaped and therefore not bubbles? Bubble tea doesn't even have bubbles, the round shape is not an air pocket. Is that a vast niggerjew reptoid chemtrail conspiracy too? Or only the cubes because you feel special that you're the first gwailo to "discover" bubble tea.
