>> No.4419385

I bought my wusthof knives in a set and for spending X amount of money the store gave me a knife block and cutting board free. So.. tiny wooden wusthof block. Very thick though.

the tiny board they give you in a bar board. for limes and garnishes for bar type stuff. a good cutting board should be an inch longer diagonally past the size of your knife. check out restaurant supply stores and get a huge plastic one for 20 bucks.

A big bamboo one. Pic isn't mine but looks pretty similar. They work great and look a lot nicer than the plastic crap I had before.

I have a pegged maple one, I think. It's due to be table-sanded/changed. Laminated long-grain.

Next I think I'd like to get a finished slice from a tree.

>> No.4419779

Bamboo is best, and not very expensive. Plastic feels like shit to cut on.

I saw a few cutting boards made of glass what is up with that? It damages the edge of the knives , maybe it's obvious attempt to fuck with ceramic knives.

It's stupid yeah. They're really more worktop savers than cutting boards of course. Only a serrated blade would stand up to much use on one.

I own epicurians personally. Bit expensive but well worth it.

If I had a glass cutting board I'd rather use it for serving things.

For the price of one of these I went to wal mart and I bought 8 plastic ones. 4 srs... their a flat piece of plastic and wal mart is really good at selling cheap plastic. they're like 2 bucks a piece for a 12 inch and maybe 3 or 4 bucks for the bigger 18 inch versions.

I prefer to have many clean cutting boards instead of 1.

plastic is easy on knife edges and goes in the dishwasher.

I seriously hope you guys wouldn't bother with anything else.

Alas, those don't suffice if you use a cleaver for processing your own meat, breaking bones to make stock, etc, but otherwise they're great.

We've got a big wood one with legs but got one like this for a second board for when there's two people in the kitchen. This one has become the go-to board for me because it's so light and easy to use.

Yeah.. I know what you mean. Though formthe price, you could throw the plastic ones away every 6 months and they are dish washer safe.

I got this one at a garage sale for 4 bucks. When i got it, it had a big circularburn mark like someone had put a searing hot pan on it and burnt it. I bought it, sanded the burn off, sanded it flat, washed it and put a litlle mineral oil on it and whalla! This is my nice big board for thankgiving turkeys (nice juice ring) and for taking apart whole sides of beef or deer or whatever.
